Hooking options

Well, Gidley's gone, the paper today is saying Gower may be forced into retirement ... who do we select as our number 14 for the rest of the season?

Clydsdale and Hilder are the obvious options.Costigan would be the "dear god no" choice. We can't call on Waddell again this season, I believe. Adams and Redman would be bolters.

I don't think there's any genuine leftfield options (as much as I tried to think of a way to get Tahu onto the bench  ).

It'd have to be Hilder just for his experience. If it happened earlier on in the season I'd love to see Clydsdale get the spot but it'd be unfair to throw him into the 2 biggest games of the season having played only 1 first grade game, especially in the crucial position he plays. It'd be different if it was a winger or backrower off the bench.

Has to be Hilder can play hooker, second row/lock, in halves at a pinch and think he may have even kicked a wobbly goal or two in his time

I think Clydesdale is injured???

If so definitely Hilder on, but with Bedsy playing more minutes than usual. Preferably 60+

Yeah you'd hope Bedsy was only playing fewer minutes to allow Gidley more time on the field. If Bedsy can play 50-60+ minutes I'd be happy to have Hilder backing up.

I feel like this guy knows how to hook.

I guess Hilder is the safest option, but his service from dummy half isn't great. I'd prefer Clydsdale at hooker if he's available.

Having said that, I'd like to see Hilder on the bench still and give him some game time at lock. Both Smith and Hilder are excellent ruck defenders, so we don't lose much in that area when either of them come off for a rest.

Hilder had a very good game in NSW cup - had to work really hard with us down to 11 at one stage, and played 80 minutes.
Adams is also in career best form and easily outplayed Mitch Williams today, and Williams is a certainty for NSW cup player of the year.

Hilder may be no one's idea of a hooker but 1 thing for sure the tackle that Beau Scott missed on Friday night as well as in other games, Hilder does in his sleep.

Nothing to do with his defence, but his good for a few forward passes a game. Provides no impact, will just be a solid fill in.

Hilder should go alright if chosen. Will help tighten up the defence and if we aren't playing from behind we should be able to put on the points this weekend.

And some people earlier in the year said you don't need to go out wasting money on a hooker for next year when you need a suitable backup THIS year. I can't believe you didn't offer Nathen Friend a contract for next year. Perfect replacement for Buderus.

Only need to look at my mob to see how vital a quality/reliable hooker is to a team.

Hilders defence would be a great asset to our side at the moment, the trouble as mentioned is his inability to bring a forward onto the ball. We don't have too many other options sadly and Hilder has been overlooked in the past so who knows.

I think the major issue and most disappointing thing is we are goin to really suck next year without a decent hooker. It's a massive fail on the clubs behalf investing on kurt being the savour when he hasn't proven his body is up to it. For someone of Bennett stature it really is rubbish recruiting.
