Hi Everyone! (Introduce Yourself!)

Hello fellow knights tragics,
I've been a footy fan since i can remember remembering. I loved watching faifax & schubert's flair in the 70's so I'd say my favourite team then was easts. When canberra came into the comp my allegiance swayed with the green machine; wow, what a team. I still don't believe there's been a better combined defensive -attacking team to this day.
Then in 88, i drank from the poisoned red & blue chalice. In reflection, it's only been since then that i realise that i went from a footy fan to a footy fanatic; virtually overnight.
I remember taking my daughter to the M1 (F3) crossover at Toronto to cheer on the knights bus on their way to the gf in 97. I loved later learning that the whole team were honestly & truly emotionally moved by the send off that they received along their whole route but surprisingly they didn't expect.
By accident, I've met a number of knights players over the years. Usually with our kids whilst on holidays, at airports etc... but also with my work. Most of them have been awesomely humble, most memorably jarrod mullen. Both he & his partner were brilliant with our kids. I certainly cherish his accessibility & undivided attention with them when he simply could have brushed them off. Hat infinitely off to you for that JM!
Nowadays however, our 3 kids are all grown up and we've not only tainted them with the rare eye disease, being one is red whereby the other eye is blue, but we've also tainted our 5 poor grandchildren in much the same light; they are doomed I tells ya!
Our later years have permitted my wife & i the somewhat selfishness to repeatedly buy season tickets. Whereby we sit every game, with the obvious covid & sickness exclusions, in bay 3 right on the southern 10m line. It's been a great spot over the years but unfortunately we've noticeably been overrun by opposition fans this year due to our poor form & their respective teams improving form. There's always next year, right?!
Anyhoo, that's enough waffle from this true red & blue fan. Lastly, I'd like to say a big thanks to all that have been graciously interinteractive with me thus far, especially james who's helped me in the background.
Many thanks for reading this long-winded intro!
Cheers Al...
Welcome aboard Roughie! Were you living in the Hunter in 88, is that why you switched to us? Big call to ditch the Raiders in those days haha.

Gosh reading that made me think how good is it going to be if we are ever a competitive force again ...

Yes, I'm a newcastle boy through & through. We just didn't have a home team to support pre-88.
Well, we can't sink too further down the evolutionary nrl scale, so yes, it will certainly be grand should we even make the 8 in a millennium within our distant descendent's lifetime!

Reminds me of that Broncos game, maybe 2009 or so, stadium literally lost power and went dark, players couldn't come back out from half-time till it was fixed. Can't remember how long it was but it must of been at least half an hour.
Yeah i think i remember that , getting old now and my memory is not as good as it was .
I loved it when we would go early and watch all three games i always took my doorless 74 willy's jeep and park in the first row so i could drive over the footpath and gutter to get out instead of lining up lol.

Hi mate , i'm pretty much the same as you . I was a St George supporter until 87 when they said in 88 we would have a team in the comp and my eye's went from Red and White to Red and Blue .
To be honest my Dad took me to a game between Souths (his team) and Saints and i think i backed them for a bit of rivalry between us, it was in about 1969 lol... RIP old boy...
To this day i've never actually been to the St George area every time i saw them play was on away games...

Welcome aboard Frank, any moments stand out from those early games?
Well, the "wally's a ******" chant when Brisbane come to town was up there. 😂

I can't remember if it was a trial game just before we come into the comp or an early season game. But we beat Manly! We definitely introduced ourselves on the big stage after that win. Also remember the Kiwi internationals, like tony kemp, and obviously inaugural captain Sam Stewart. True Newcastle tough spirit started early as soon as we come into the comp.

I remember standing on the hill the first time we beat Brisbane at home, it is a special memory.

The spirit of the Knights in the early days was something special, they made up for what the lacked in talent with a never say die attitude.

Hey everyone,

Long time lurker, first time being involved. 28 and from Canberra. My older brother got me into the Knights and the Blues (the traitor now supports the Raiders and Maroons) at a young age and I have supported them ever since. Started to pick up my interest a lot more in 2014 and somehow got through those spoon years.

I make escape rooms and tabletop games for a living and play Rugby Union for the closest country team to CBR.

I can't imagine myself being too productive in the chat, but I find myself on here most days so I figured I'd pop in and say hi.

Nice to have you here! And well worth signing up just in case you want to chip in now and then :)

My brother is a Raiders fan too ... yours sounds like a shocker though, getting you on the Knights bandwagon then ditching you, that's unfortunate! 😆😝

Yeah he's to blame for all this suffering. But I wouldn't trade it!

The QLD thing gets me more than the Raiders, but fair play to him, he's had the last laugh more often than not lately.

Hi everyone, long time lurker first time poster. Live in Brisbane now, but grew up in Newcastle and have been a Knights supporter since 88. Would love to see the team be competitive again but feel like its a long way off. in the meantime I live in hope of being able to watch a game without turning it off in disgust.

Ditto to that!
It certainly does feel like it's the proverbial rebuilding phase media regurgitate time. However, typical of us red & blue eyed optimists, I am confident that we are on the up. Ok, it's >51% hope but we've honestly been in more dire circumstances than this, more than once. I also believe the core of the team are valuable assets; we just need a significant halves tweak and a coaching realignment. A lack of confidence is certainly infectious albeit so is confidence in itself.
I'm also glad there's no swear jar at our place after each game; I wouldn't be able to afford my membership if there were!
Enjoy the forum interaction Nathanwill5, it'll be good bantering with you.

I was a raiders fan too prior to 88. What a team they were. Albeit I've never in my life entertained the idea of supporting those smug QLDers. Maybe just quantify it by pretending that your brother was adopted, then it wouldn't be his fault (joking!)

Any chance you could come up to newy sometime soon and build an escape room for AOB, think he's in the market for one right now?!

Enjoy the forum WilliamTheConqueror and keep the red-blue faith!

Yeah the Raiders are decently likeable, especially being from her, but QLD is just treason.

I have genuinely considered opening an escape room in Newy. Went so far as to scope out some commercial real estate up there. The only escape AOB needs is down the M1 so unfortunately I can't help out there.

Cheers mate! Looking forward to keeping up on things in the off season and hopefully making it up for a few games next season!

Welcome William the Conquerer. Ever since I saw your name I've wanted to write this, just needed the time. And it isn't footy related, but is funny.

Owey's daughter was doing yr7 history a couple of years back. She was obviously taken enough by the story of William the Conqueror to come home and tell us about it, but was thin on details.

She's telling the story of King Harold fighting the Vikings at Stamford bridge saying "the king goes and fights some guys up here". Then William invades, she says, this guy named "William the d!@k" lands in the south. I go "do you mean William the Bast##d?" And She says "Yeah, I knew it was a rude name". Still makes me laugh. Also, I'll bet William was glad to leave his old name behind when by conquering England. Thanks for indulging.

Maybe it wasn't your daughter's fault and her teacher was just a potty mouth?!
