Fletcher Sharpe discussion

Yeah it’s going to work. He’s just a great footy player and Kalyn clearly wants to be a kicking option so carrying a non kicking 6 is perfectly viable.

Would still like to get Dylan Brown because top tier running threat in every spine position is a cheat code (see: Melbourne), but if not, and there’s a lack of belief in Cogger/Gamble (which seems the case), balancing out the spine with a guy who’s just smart and has a great kicking game is also a perfectly viable option (ie a better version of Cogger).

Given a very simple role and he did it well today. Having Ponga so dominant down that edge will help take a lot of playmaking pressure off him while he's still developing in that area. Holding the ball up until the right time for Best instead of just thinking "I'm a half now so I should pass it immediately" already shows good instincts. Running/support play game was never a doubt.

Defence is the area that'll make or break the move. Wasn't an issue today but teams are going to target him until he proves that they shouldn't.

I was blown away by his improvement in that area within the space of a week.

Obviously a true footy player, and one that can go through the footage and take on board coaching, too.

O'Brien deserves a big shout out for Sharpe taking this big step.

I didn't want him stuck on the wing, but moving him to 5/8 would never have entered my mind, till O'Brien talked about it last year. From memory, O'Brien said he had been looking at replays and noticed Sharpe was always around and involved when good things happen, so wondered about getting him more involved and 5/8 was one spot mentioned.

I'd say, if it works out long term, it's O'Brien's best coaching decision at the Knights.

10 years a bit much, 5 yes, might cost us more if he becomes the best 5/8 but if so then that’s fair but let him develop this year, I’d good to great extend and then give him the pay he deserves for a extended contract, we can always update as years and development arrive

If Dylan Brown needed any more convincing than yesterday then we cannot help him. I know it was trial but the way we attacked the edges was exceptional. And Schiller competes in the air on kicks. He has his ways to go but I blame Sticky for being a goose and parking him in Cup out of spite for the slowing of his development.

I believe the most convincing anyone needs to do is Dylan on himself leaving Parra.

Once and if he has made that decision. I think we are in with a great shot.

I believe he'd fit our system really well. When Moses went down, with how limited their side is, with an inexperienced guy like Talagi coming in at 6, they probably needed him to be Cleary or DCE if they wanted to win games. Dominant on-ball 7. That's not who he is but that doesn't mean he can't be a great halfback. Jahrome Hughes isn't that either and he just won the Dally M.

Yeah Parra had some stink on them last year, the back 5 were just so far below FG level and the pack wasn’t much better either. I’m quite keen on Brown just don’t want to be handing him a 10 year contract. A partially torn ACL and various shoulder injuries should give us some concerns.
