That’s Billy-esque! He was a skilful ball player and elusive runner but perhaps his greatest asset was always being close the action ready to take advantage of a line break, offload, etc.The thing that stands out about him, apart from his speed and agility, is his mad fitness level.
You watch him in games and he is always right there when something happens. If someone makes a break, Sharpe is jogging along beside, ready to streak away.
The ground he covers in a game must be right up there with the fittest guys in the game.
Nah he's an out and out FB. He'll be back up for some time. Though I can see him taking up a good option in couple yrs time for a new Franchise.Maybe in a year's time he will be big enough to play on the wing?
Im seeing the logic of what people are saying that he isn't a wing solutionIt will be interesting to see his height and weight when his official profile goes up.
He has grown a lot taller and bulked up a bit over the last 3 years of juniors.
He looks as tall as Ponga now, but even with the muscle he has added this off season I suspect he'd still be in the low 80kgs weight wise - or 10kg smaller than Ponga.
I had a good mullet going a few years ago and I could fly to the fridge pretty wellWatching Fletcher Hunt score 2 tries in the Flegg highlights, the question has to be who is the better Fletcher?
The answer is Fletcher Hunt of cause. His flying mullet whilst scoring multiple tries gets 10 out of 10 - Fletcher Sharpe 6 out of 10 for the flying mullet at best.
It's also good to see that Myles Martin is re-growing his mullet. He might re-find his try scoring once he gets the blond locks flowing again.
I don't think Schiller or Sharpe are guaranteed the right wing spot for next season.Has earned the wing spot for the rest of this season, simply too good a player to leave in reserves with the first-string options we currently have.
Next season is a different equation. Schiller will suit that right wing spot much more despite Sharpe proving to be a genuine option, Sharpe is also simply not going to be a career outside back.
The question becomes what to do with him in reserves? Does he have a season at fullback as KP backup or do we expedite a transition to the halves? With expansion sides likely entering the competition in 2027 and 2028 if the plan is to keep Sharpe at fullback we are going to lose him with KP contracted til 2027.
Despite fullback being the strongest position in the NRL he is going to be the best of the backups when expansion teams flood the market. It's not as if we don't get anything out of that strategy - for 25/26 we'll have a quality backup for injuries to the back 3 and then Sharpe can carve his own path.
IMO though as a local junior who has all the talent to be a superstar finding an alternative place in our first 17 should be the priority. Whether that occurs next season or they let him develop at fullback in reserves during 2025 and then make the shift to the halves in 2026 is a discussion that needs to be had internally.
These selection issues all assume that we have a fully fit and healthy squad, but honestly how often is that the case? Schiller and Sharpe will get plenty of time next year in different positions. Gagai will retire at the end of 25, Schiller centre and Sharpe wing unless Sharpe or KP transition into a different role by then. The club will have to find a spot for Sharpe somewhere. I think it’s safe to say Marzhew has one wing spot already wrapped up. He’s had an indifferent season but his good stuff far out ways the bad. The other wing spot is there for the taking and as long as KP is healthy the fullback spot is his.
For mine Sharpe has his nose in front for the other. Has more strike, speed and natural skill than Tuala and Schiller is still relatively new to firsts as well so he’s a bit of an unknown, apparently prefers centre but he’s got Gagai and Best in front of him. Will be interesting to see what unfolds.
