Fletcher Sharpe discussion

I honestly believe our coach needs a more democratic way of choosing players. Okay we are like every other side with the top 30 but we always seem to be playing musical chairs with the same 17 or 18 players. How the heck can these younger guys showcase their skills if they never get a run. It's okay if you have stacks of natural talent but some are not like that at all and only learn with experience. Running around week after week in the reggies does bugger all for anyone. Ask Will Pryce!!!

Winning in the NRL isn’t a democracy. The Coach had a responsibility to the players and fans to pick the team he thinks will win the game on the weekend.

I Personally don't think we lose out on having either Schiller or Sharpe on the wing spot. Heights advantage to Schiller, both strong runner, both very fast.

Considering how well Sharpe went its hard to move him

However the carrot is there to have him playing FB/5/8 role in Cup and developing that for when KP isn't available.

All this rumour of Roosters wanting to make a play at KP in years to come has me feeling like - go for it, if he does go then we have some incredible talent sitting behind him.
The only way Schiller is starting on the wing next season is if Sharpe is tried at 5/8. Sharpe will be one of the first players picked next season.

These selection issues all assume that we have a fully fit and healthy squad, but honestly how often is that the case? Schiller and Sharpe will get plenty of time next year in different positions. Gagai will retire at the end of 25, Schiller centre and Sharpe wing unless Sharpe or KP transition into a different role by then.
Listening to Gags , he won't be looking to retire at the end of 25 . Haven't we signed him for 26 as well?

Yeah, mutual option for 2026.
From what I understand that generally means if the club exercises it's for one amount, and if the player exercises its for a different (lower) amount.

Gags is 33 and will turn 34 on 3 January, but he is still a brilliant player. His body is holding up well. It’s just a question of how long he can keep it up for.
He's fallen off considerably in the last 12 months athletically. He looked unaffected by age all the way up to the 23' finals but returned for the 24' season missing a yard of pace. Hes an incredible athlete and will last longer than most players in his position but you can count on one hand the number of outside backs who've kept younger players out of the starting 13 at age 35

So next year is likely to be his last or at least the last season where he's the best player at the club in that position

My team for '25 would definitely have a halves combination of Fletcher Sharpe and Will Pryce!! Think on that one!!
Which one of them is steering the team around and doing the general play kicking? I think Fletch is a sharp kid and might be able to learn that eventually but gezz, you are setting those guys up to fail.

I know, let's buy another experienced crock as half and leave the kids in reserve grade. Heard that before?? Open your eyes and see what other clubs are doing with juniors.

Watching Fiji the other day and Donoughoe kept putting in kicks that he used to do in Flegg for us. In Flegg he had Fletcher Sharpe anticipating those kicks and usually getting on the end of them and scoring.
When he did it for Fiji I kept thinking Sharpe was going to appear from nowhere and score, but no one got on the end of most.
