First Test: Australia v England @ GABBA

All of that for a draw.

Both sides took 11 wickets throughout the match, not good enough for either side.

Aussies have alot more to worry about.

Australia's hands really let them down.
 
England can take a lot of consolation - some dodgy umpiring decisions really cost them a much better chance of winning the game.

Australia haven't been able to bowl sides out twice for a few years now ... it'll cost them at some stage of the series.
 
Just woeful but gritty effort from Cook and Trott . How pathetic has Johnson become? from the spearhead to an air head gee :think:
 
Yes, Johnson must go. He offerrs nothing anymore that he has lost his pace, in with Dougy out with Johnson. Pretty negative sort of playing style from England I must say, they certainly played it out for a draw.

Can you really blame England though?

At 200 behind at the end of the third day, the best they could hope for was a draw. At lunch today, they were 200 ahead of Aus. If they were to declare then, or anytime soon after, it would've given the Aussies a sniff, and after all of Cook, Trott, and Strauss's hard work, they would've been stupid to do that.

They had a fairly smart idea, bat so Australia can't win, then try and take a few wickets to go into Adelaide with a heap of momentum. Didn't exactly work, but they still go into Adelaide in a better position than Aus.

And at what stage exactly would you have declared if you were English captain?

200 runs behind in the first innings - had Australia batted first England would have been following on. You never throw the game away after saving it like that - no team in world cricket would be stupid enough to do that.

Added to that, England only need to draw the Ashes to regain the title.

Well I guess that is a valid point, considering the wicket was a batsmen's paradise. Kudos to the Poms for putting on that sort of batting display in the first place. I'm still tipping an Australian series victory if they select their BEST bowling attack.

I don't really see the need for guys like Doherty to be selected when we have some handy spin bowlers in Katich and North and also have a wild card in Smith up our sleeves.
 
I don't really see any Australian bowling combination that will get England all out twice, myself.

They won't bat as poorly as they did in the first innings again, especially after the 517/1 ... mind you, they won't bat that well again, either ... but the confidence that will have given them, I can't see any bowlers not there in this game that will be able to do anything hugely different.

That there I believe would bowl England out twice, providing their top order don't fluke double hundreds and century's and Australis'a fieldsman are up to par. Johnson has to go, he is bowling rubbish at the moment, Bollinger is the spearhead we are striving for, he will rattle England's top order.
 
They've named the squad for the 2nd Test and it's the same as the 1st Test with the only change being Harris in for Smith.

I wanna see how Mitchell Starc goes. He's only had one ODI...but you know, he looks promising. Tall guy.
 
Starcy was my class mate in high school lol , never thought he'd debut for Australia so soon.

Hughes attended my school for an year or so too
