Dylan Brown discussion

There’s definitely two sides to the “biggest deal in NRL history” argument.

Against
• We paid overs,
• 10 years is to long, both make this a hugh risk.
• He is “definitely” not a 7, which is what we need.
• DO NOT want to move Sharpe out of 5/8.

FOR
• he is a top five elite 5/8
• established and still young, so we will have him in his prime.
• No other “elite” halves on the market and in the foreseeable future.
• he should instantly make us a better side.
• We CAN develop him into an elite 7.
• we are Newcastle, unfortunately we have to pay overs to get this contact across the line.

He’s the thought’s of one of Newcastle’s prodigally sons that does have a great footy brain. It’s the first 20mins.

I love Matty but that was moronic. All his talk about the Knights needing a quality halfback instead that can control the game…ok, who???

The first few years will be moderately expensive, the last few will be very cheap in comparison to salary cap. In 2028 1.3m will likely only be 7.9% of the salary cap, which will be equivalent to 1.05m in today's market, he will be on 1.4m after 2028 imo which will be 7.07% in his 6th year or 926k in today's market.

I feel in the later part of his contract as long as he doesn't phone it in, we will have a lot of cap space and the contract will seem to have been an amazing piece of business, considering at this stage it could be expected a lot of good halves will be on an even higher cost, with new teams and a lot of the quality halves playing currently being retired.

At least we will see how Brown handles pressure because it starts next weekend against Galvin & Luai . Media will be watching his every move . Nicho will be so thankful 😀

I don’t think media commenters have been following the difficulty we’ve been having in attracting talent, as well as retaining it.

Unfortunately it means we have to pay a bit more for a player in a key position like Brown. IMO it’s a huge win that he’s tied down very long term and we no longer need to worry about that.

And fingers crossed with a big upgrade to our halves, this now makes retention bit of an easier prospect, too.

It is great how the same talking heads whose analysis of the knights is they’ve got no good players besides Ponga they’ll struggle is now it’s a big risk and we could lose a bunch of players.
Yeah this is the baffling thing. The same people complaining they’re a one man team can’t comprehend the club going out and trying to get a good half to help KP out.

For some reason the knights can only have one good player at a time. Every other top team has at least two very good spine players but the Knights signing Brown means KP will want to go 🥴

The usual commentators have zero vision. There is a reason they are in media giving their opinion and not in clubs adminstration, because they have nfi.

We sign dyl for 1.3 and they compare that to what players are getting right now and go well he is not clearly.

That is the extent of their thinking. They miss that this is a 10 year deal and the cap increases, new clubs coming in and general lack of good halves means as contract cycles happen, other players will be up around that figure.

Matty analysis isn't wrong, and it will be interesting to see how the club handles the controlling 7 skillset we lack after this signing.

It’s baffling for commentators to say we are a one man team, Gags, Friz, Best, Crossland, Lucas, Marzhew and I think even Sharpe are representive players. We are far from a one man band.

Commentators should do their research on the Knights or just talk about something else they do know about.

10 minutes into the James Graham podcast and as expected like clockwork they’ve hammered us.

Apparently Brown is an unproven player, Parra have a better roster than us and there was huge unrest last year when we let D Saf go. The contact is now 14 million apparently. Also we should have paid Pezet (an actual unproven First Grader) overs to sign.

Talking out of their arse on repeat.

I don’t know if it’ll be a good signing or not but the people in the RL media really have an axe to grind against us.
That Charlie bloke has no idea at all, his takes in general are quite bad. Usually rate James Graham's opinions but has clearly missed the mark here.

I know most don't like Ennis but I think the guy who hates the Knights the most is Hindy based off the 2001 GF and a few comments lately.

Old Hindy has never recovered from 2001, it still burns after almost a quarter of a century.

It's just a lazy judgement. Someone before them said it. So without using their eyes, they say the same.
Same said about turbo for years. Dce is a gun. Jake is a gun. Thier second rowers are weapons. But they see one bloke in the highlights and make their mind up from their.
Unfortunately they will keep saying the same thing.
All the experts had us getting smashed by the tigers. And when we don't, it's because the tigers let us win.

Most of these outlets thrive on clicks to pay the bills.

Bit boring if they say, good job Newcastle.
16 other clubs and their supporters want to hear that this is a rubbish deal and fantasise about our 10 years of suffering.

I don’t expect them to be all over everything about us, all the time, but when they clearly have NFI it’s irritating.

Like when DSaf didn’t like the direction the club was going and chose to leave, and what a great signing that is for Dolphins.

Or how our halves pairing was going to be Gamble and Cogger. Despite us discussing Sharpe at 6 for months.

Look forward to Browns hungover speech calling out the haters in October 2026 at a packed Newcastle Workers or wherever we celebrate the GF win.

My comment about the Brown signing on James Graham's Youtube video was hidden. At no point was I attacking them or even dismissing their opinion, It seems like they aren’t interested in different perspectives from a knights fans point of view, just their own narrative.
That’s nuts!

Yeah he’s a fool. I hate it on these when they let the button pusher have an opinion. He knows nothing about the game.
It was that bad I’ve actually unfollowed the show. Their opinions were that ill informed and ****house.

YouTube algorithm is a bit wack. Anything that comes across as “aggressive” the comment would usually wont appear or it would need approval from the channel’s owner.
