Dylan Brown discussion

Cogger is a great back up. That’s all he will ever be.

It’s a shame because if you watched him in juniors he was better than Cleary. I think he may have got an injury and he never really developed. Really if all things went right lamb and cogger should still be our halves. If they had reached their potential we probably have at least a solid halves paring.
Decent*

Mediocre*
That mediocre of a backup that he helped a club win a comp... I think that throws him back in the great backup category. Honestly is probably the greatest backup available at a club atm. That's with a proven record

I’d have to agree with this. Let’s be honest Nathan brown killed coggers and lambs career they didn’t develop their games properly and were cut early.

I think it's a few factors that ruined their games, Nathan Brown being one of them. The terrible recruitment around this time and the time leading up to it. The whole triple wooden spoon era was terrible for development for a lot of our young players IMO, bit of a bummer considering there was some promising juniors around that time that we would be seeing at their peak right now had things turned out differently.

They missed out on the top 8 by 3 wins while playing their best 5/8 option and probably their best try scorer out of position. It gave off big Ricky Stuart vibes, throwing the toys out of the cot since he didn't re sign, well jokes on parra losing 6 games by 10 or less and Dyl brown was watching from the sidelines for the most part of it
Funny thing is the media have been praising Ryles for setting standards and playing someone who has a future there in front of Brown. That’s fair, but why was he filling in at centre and hooker if that was the case? I remember during those games, they had reserves in those positions ready to fill in.

The media will take an opposite position to whatever is happening to harvest clickbait and outrage.

If Ryles dumped Brown completely, you would get the stories about Ryles banishing Brown for signing elsewhere and is that the right call with Eels form etc.

You do A, media will run B stories.

Looking forward to seeing what Brown and the squad can do in the early rounds next season. Hoping we can have a season where we don't blow the first half of the season!

Every one of my mates thinks Sandon Smith is a back up half, discarded by the Roosters for Savala, and that Smith is a 6 and not a genuine 7.

The consensus seems to be that Smith might be best playing 14, with Brown at 7 and Sharpe at 6.

I genuinely reckon we've found a good to very good first receiver. No, he isn't a great general play kicker, but he does all the other stuff really well imo. And in our team set up, 90% of the halfbacks job should be figuring out how tf we get quality ball to our edges. I reckon Smith might really surprise people next year with how effective he can be for us

Green's plan for our attack was to have a spine full of threats like Melbourne.
If Holbrook wants to try the plan Green sold to Brown, we will go

1 Ponga
6 Sharpe
7 Brown
9 Smith
13 Crossland
14 Arthur
and all those guys will have roles that involve some level of playmaking.

Holbrook will probably go a different way - but he might try it out in the trials.

I actually don’t think he will and Hollbrook has actually said, first thing he wants to get sorted and figure it out quickly is the spine. And I 💯 agree. Pick who you want playing where, early, and stick with it.

If Arthur can somehow become a revelation at hooker it'll go a long, long way for the balance of the spine and the team. But there's something about the player just gives me the feeling that he doesnt have the physicality required to be effective in FG. Despite his age.

I get the feeling he was only there because of aob. The young lad from the dolphins may be infront of him with aob gone.

I thought Mat Arthur started looking pretty good when his brother joined him in reserve grade.
I wasn't a fan till then, but his brother lifted him, and we started having some good results in reserves.
He is still young enough to play Flegg next year.
He looks like a school kid, but so did Tom Starling for years, and he turned out OK.

Arthur looks good in NSW Cup. But FG he seems to fall very short in many areas of competition. I'm genuinely worried that he won't ever make that transition, despite his age, which granted is a huge factor

My feeling is that Arthur wont really get a 3rd year, POS will replace him in the pecking order if not jettison him entirely if he isnt able to find his feet in some meaningful way in FG this season.

So its probably an all or nothing season for the lad. He has the talent and if he can make it work next year it'll give us another genuine dynamic to explore in attack. A hooker of his profile is transformative. But they come around so rarely im sceptical that we've somehow stubbled across one
