Let's be realistic now. We're only ever going to sign no hopers who can't get a run at other clubs like Tariq Sims.I won't be satisfied until we bring back the club legend Greg Smith.

Makes you question the reasons behind junior development hey... maybe a draft will work, that way there would be no reason for clubs to fund any jnr development programs the nrl would have to fund them..
im calling bull**** atm
It'd be quite the conspiracy theory that since the NRL own us, they secretly want the Mata'utias to leave in order to garner support for the draft.
Wouldn't put it past those muppets though.
Imo a draft may work in distributing young players amongst clubs, but once they reach the end of their first contract, they will be off wherever they want. You can't manufacture a link between a player and a city just by relocating someone.
Hell, the Mata'utias have been here for years and we've developed them from scratch, and they still don't seem to have a connection with the club that can't be bought out.
A draft would be the end of us for good.
I'm hearing some of that coin is set aside to lure Ciraldo out of retirement, too.

I think what is needed is an award for the biggest lie told by the media over a 12 month period. It would of course have to be "The Greg Smith Hyperbole Award". The DT is off and running.
EXTEND Kurt!!!??? God help us. We're going to have to shoe horn him out of here as it is - don't encourage him!I'm hearing some of that coin is set aside to lure Ciraldo out of retirement, too.

The most likely reason the manager doesn't want them to put pen to paper in a hurry is that the boys are rapidly rising in value.
Sione has gone from being worth 100k a season to 400k in 6 months.
Chanel has gone from 60k to 300k.
Pat has gone from 60k to 150k, and will probably be a firstgrader and worth 300k next year.
The manager will be seeing the dollar signs clicking over, and will want to wait and see where they stop.
Everyone needs to listen to this

The guy who wrote the article is saying that it's likely a negotiating tactic by their manager to hurry the new deal along. The Knights have been trying for months to re-sign them but the manager is yet to agree on anything. The boys are said to be "desperate" to stay in Newcastle, they've told Gidley they want to stay and the Knights are confident they'll be re-signed long term.
I feel like bagging the manager but he's doing a damn good job getting what he wants for the boys and rightly so, that's what he's paid for. I think we just have to be a little patient. This will no doubt speed up the process. I have little doubt we'll hear the boys have "backflipped" in the coming weeks.
Ends up being a nothing story in the end. Can't believe how quickly people were to react after what's been said today, especially the bulldogs band wagoners who hadn't existed before last weekend saying it was a sure thing.
Would it even be a backflip I seriously doubt anythings been signed at all yet!
Yeah it's odd. The Knights have put forward deals but apparently the manager hasn't accepted it. Who knows what's going on, maybe he's waiting for a counter-offer and this is his way to hurry it up. Negotiating long term deals for 3 people at once would take time. Hopefully the frustration from both sides don't boil over and we can get it sorted asap. It's a negotiating tactic by the manager to hurry things along, but he's the one that's been dragging his heals? This makes no sense ...
