Dane Gagai discussion

I’d tell them to get stuffed if I was him. Queenslanders claim this moral superiority about their perceived loyalty and they dropped one of their best ever servants at the drop of a hat for some mediocre winger from the Cowboys.

If I was Dane/Dave I’d tell Billy where he can stick his Origin jersey.
This 1 million percent. Murray Taulagi is one of the most overrated players in the comp. QLD would be a much better side with Holmes on the wing Gagai in the centres. Glad they don’t pick Dane but well done to him.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if slater is playing silly buggers and naming Reece walsh with the intention of playing gagai in the starting team

Do we think Gags could get a Daley M center spot? Just thought about after someone made mentioned of him troubling Holmes against the cows.

I’m sure he would have racked up some points. I think he has been our best most consistent player this year.

The Dally M team of year is chosen a bit different. It is not based on Dally M points from each game. “The judges vote on the best player(s) in each position at regular intervals throughout the season. A further vote is conducted at the conclusion of the regular season.” It really is a popularity contest. Crichton and Farnworth will get it. I think Best is a smoky even though he has missed a bunch of games.

I would think he could be a Smokey for it, especially if they chose a full squad (i.e. 2 centres, 2 back rowers, 2 wings, 2 props, etc)

He really has been in vintage form this year and deservedly got himself a call up to the Maroons…he is like a vintage wine, he seems to be getting better with age🍷

I read a few early comments in this thread. Many seasoned posters questioning Dane’s desire and ability to deliver the goods week in week out. Like he was another to come and hang up the boots on a big pay check. And with some average performances in an average team was hard to argue. But he, and Frizz have been exceptional role models and critical to the team. Love watching their effort and Dane has got that look in his eye. He wants to win every challenge, every play, every game. Kids like Fletch and the crop we have coming through will learn heaps of Dane and Frizz. Tipping both to have absolute blinders this evening!

FOX had him in their team based on their FOX Lab Stats. Don’t know how Holmes made it.. maybe due to being this year leading points scorer. Tedesco made it on default as Ponga/Edwards/Walsh were out injured a lot this year. Apart from that can’t argue too much with the team. Probably need to find a spot for Lomax.

Gagai talking to Joey about Schiller's defence after the game said something like "he had a lot to work on in the pre-season" - which got me thinking that Gags has made a few weak defenders look good since he returned from Souths.
In his first stint at the Knights he was a terrible defender himself, but whoever coached defence at Souths turned him into a top defender, and he now seems able to pass that on to others.
I wouldn't mind seeing Gags become a specialist defence coach in the future.
We all know that defending at centre is the hardest place to defend and a lot of guys look great in attack, but never learn to defend well, and Gags was one of those guys, till he did learn - so no one better to teach that skill.

The big yardage runs where he would bump off 3 or 4 defenders haven't been a thing so far this season but defensively he looks better than ever.

Interesting that Toohey said an outside back signing was a priority (along with a prop). Have to think there's a reason for that, and Gagai is the only one of the starting back 5 not guaranteed to be here next year with his mutual option. Doubt he'd go to another NRL club but maybe one last multi-year payday in England.

Just going by that article, I’m not too sure he’d be keen on heading to England. I was thinking the same thing until I read that.
