Confirmed: Knights sign Boyd for four years

I can agree with either side of the argument, i have said before, he wasn't a necessity, but a good signing. I would have been happy either way.

It would be interesting to see how much Darius is on. I can understand why people are saying Boyd is a waste of money because we have enough backs especially with the juniors coming through.

Costigan a waste of money?!
We have enough backs, for sure. But that's like saying we don't want Thurston because we've got Mullen, Roberts and Henry. As someone else said, having enough and having players of that calibre are completely different things.

As for Costigan - I know, right!! Yeah, a QLD rep and premiership winning player is a waste of money. I honestly question what game people are watching sometimes.

I'm loving all the comments about how Boyd should grow up and leave Bennett and that the Knights are cheating the salary cap. It shows me that supporters from other clubs are jealous and worried  The future is looking great!

They're absolutely right about Boyd though.
He seems to like winning premierships and following around the greatest coach of all time.
What's wrong with the guy?

They must have a special bond. But if i was in Boyd's position i would follow Bennett. Think about it, he will probably win 3 premierships at 3 different clubs and get paid a ton of money. Under Bennett he plays his best football and this allows him to make the QLD and Australian teams and stay in them. These matches also have high match payments. And by playing for QLD and Australian it creates a legacy for Boyd for being a great player. And its not just a matter of Boyd following Bennett. Bennett wants Boyd in his team, which is a massive wrap on Boyd.

So why wouldnt he follow him?

This is in reply to your last 2 posts. Your post about how people are ignorant for saying they dont want Boyd and etc etc shows how ignorant you are. Everyone is allowed their opinion. Some people may think he is going to be payed to much and think the money is better spent elsewhere with what he have already, e.g keeping Gids at Fb and signing a better hooker or whatever.. Some people simply might not like or hate Boyd and dont want him in the team for that very reason. I know there are a few very quality rep players out there that i would absolutely hate to see play for the Knights, you would have a few too. Its all individuals opinions. There is nothing saying, because he is a talented rep player every support must support this.

As for Thruston, well you wouldnt sign him when you have Mullen, Henry and Roberts. They have all shown on various levels the massive potential they have that can be harnessed with a solid performing team and a good coach. Combined with the players you already have on big coin, you wouldnt sign Thurston because one you either cant afford him, or two you can, but he costs so much he kills all your money to buy depth which hurts just as much as not signing him would.

Think outside the box champ.

p.s Good to see Boyd finally signed after the ongoing will he wont he.

1. Boyd
6. Henry
7. Mullen
9. Gidley

1. Boyd
6. Mullen
7. Gidley
9. Buderus/Hilder/Another Hooker

1.Gidley
6. Boyd
7. Mullen
9. Buderus/Hilder/Another Hooker

Theres the 3 options.

You're absolutely kidding yourself with Thurston!
I know it's only a hypothetical that I created, but he's the best halfback in the world and you wouldn't want him because of players with "potential"?
Everyone is allowed their opinion - including myself. How do "some people" know what he is being paid? How do these "some people" know what's better for a football team than the greatest coach ever in Wayne Bennett? I'm not saying these people have to support the signing, I'm pointing out that it's blatently short-sighted to downplay the announcement. This guy is a superstar and is only at the beginning of his career.
Potential doesn't win you premierships - talent does. Potential could possibly win you premierships in the future, but if potential never turns into talent, then what hope do we have?

Yep. I would boot Mullen out the door quicksnap if Thurston came. I would boot Isaac out the door if Cameron Smith came. I would move Gidley (wouldn't boot him though haha) if Slater came. I would boot Sau if Inglis came. You get my point. These guys are game breakers, not 'one day will be' game breakers. You can't keep building for a future every year. One year will have to be the future (i know it's an oxymoron...but it's poetic license)

Great, superb, unbelievable signing. I didn't realise the guy was still on 23? Played 9 Origins and 3 Tests already.

Congratulations to Knights management - again cannot believe the turnaround we've had over the past 4 months.

I'll answer this out of order.

Your allowed an opinion, yet your the one referring to everyone that hasnt got the same opinion as you as ignorant. The same question could be answered "how do we know Boyd will continue with his form" "how do we know he wont be injury prone here". And it isnt short-sighted to play it down. If they are of the opinion they dont want him at the knights its the only thing they can do. Its them expressing their opinion. "They cant say i dont want him here but im happy he is here".

Im not kidding myself re Thurston. I got to ask, is this the same Thurston that only last year played the 2010 season average to poor that the cowboys were actually playing better without him. These players you talk about are also so good cos they have had the benefit of playing in better team with more quality players and a more experienced and more quality coach. We have some very talented players that with the coming players and coach will prove more then enough that we wouldnt him. Just look at the Dragons and Manly. The 2 best teams in the competition this year and neither of them have the best player in the comp in any position, one has a 2nd and either would be hard pressed even having a 3rd best. Just goes to show you dont need the best players to be the best team. So no i wouldnt spend 700k or 17% of the slary cap on one player especcially with the amount you have going to a few others and cost you any chance of depth, which if Thurston was then injuried or not playing makes you just as ****ed anyway. Any thats providing its the year Thurston is actually playing good.

What kind of question is: 'Did we need him?'

Look at the best teams in the comp and then their fullbacks and there's your answer.

Now we need a 9 and frontrowers because Gidley will be moved to the halves next year.

Any player that is as young as Darius Boyd with rep honours already is a great signing, full stop! Who knows were kurt is going to play? dont really care to be honest, with the team we are going to have and the depth we are going to be awesome.
Geeez im glad stone pointed out what our backline will be! I had no idea!! haha he seems like a little boy in a classroom saying "I know that! I know that!" and id be worried if i was jimmy mac, his wing spot is yet to be confirmed like aku's.

Darius isn't the last for Knights
  • The shopping spree is not finished
  • In the forwards, that’s where we would like some additions to be made.
  • ‘‘We’re well aware of the salary cap and don’t have any concerns regarding that.’’
  • Free agents Wes Naiqama, Keith Lulia, Shannon McDonnell, Cameron Ciraldo, Marvin Karawana and Steve Southern face uncertain futures as a wholesale cleanout appears to be inevitable.
