Confirmed: Knights sign Beau Scott for 4 years

They did well to keep this under raps! Great signing!

It just goes to show that all those rumours that the papers publish are such a load of cobblers ... when you don't hear a whisper about the biggest signing of the season, by us!

By the way, I'm stoked at this signing. Excellent player, and he will fit into the culture at Newcastle brilliantly.

Werent you the one a couple of days ago saying the team had no hope after one game?

15 minutes, to be precise!

True but we need to sign the top players for long contracts now then pay 300k in two years

Sign for three-fours years now at 100-200k '' Edwards''

O Donnell and the like at 100-125 k for two years -three could be a good move

Yeah, coz that worked so well with Cory Paterson.

I don't know if it has been mentioned in previous posts, but does anyone think he has been signed to replace Tahu?

I think his centre days are numbered.

Well if your writing the team off as a chance for 2012 after one game your hardly one to talk about sticking to 2012 talk instead of 2013.

Were 24 hours away from playing the 2nd game of the 2012 season and there's more talk about next year than tomorrow. I'd rather speculate how we'll go tomorrow than what'll be happening next year. I'm sorry If I've upset you buy saying we can't win the comp this year. That's what happens when I let my brain do the talking rather than my heart. Don't mean I won't be there supporting them..they just can't win it this year.

Buy the way when my heart was doing the talking pre season I was predicting minor - major premiers. It took 15 minutes of round one to wake from my dream.

Possibly a strategic move by Bennett to unsettle the Dragons before Rd 7, if that is the case, it's shows he is worried, a mark of respect for the Dragons.

I wouldn't be surprised if Scott is released early.

I agree, mid top 8 is probably realistic.

Along as he hasn't been signed as a centre I'm happy ... If thts the case we wont see uate one on one with his man all yr ..

The article in the herald, i'll let someone else post it, stated the deal was worth 2 million. I find it hard to believe there paying 500k a year for him. If it is anything like that, they must be banking on the salary cap being 6 or close to 6 million next year.

Well then kindly explain to us how we talk about 2012 in a thread concerning a major signing for 2013 and why the other dozen active threads about tomorrow's game and this year siomply isn't enough.

I'd say the sum is off the mark however...

When I went up to meet with HSG during the proposal, they spoke to me briefly about the salary cap and how the club never used it to the best they could.

The Knights have a lot of third party sponsors now available to include in contracts for players.

I never heard the 375k till I read other people posted it. Only read about 500k this morning. Maybe that's all including 3rd party sponsors an estimated amount.
They've (all parties) been negotiating for months according to his manager so it may not be surprising.
Very surprised with the signing but not complaining either. But seriously, no more Dragons players Wayne :P

Hmmm also now that I think of it, I wonder if he has a coaches clause after 3 years...

Good question!

Although I don't think one of those coaching clauses has ever actually been enforced by a player to get out of a contract though, has it?

Scott automatically boosts our forward pack from good to great, he adds some sting and mongrel that we may be lacking and the guy is a current rep player, not much more needs to be said. I've love to see Nev at prop with Snowden and Scott, Taia/McKinnon and Houston in the backrow, it's set to be on hell of a forward pack (and bench) next year if all find form, looking good.

Btw I dont see anything wrong with discussing 2013 now, he will be here next year so obviously next year is going to be mentioned...

You really are struggling. My reference wasn't about this thread in particular. How about we talk about who we'll sign to take Beau Scott's place in 2017 ? I'm far more worried about how our 2012 players aim up tomorrow than who will and won't be here next year.

I'll leave all you Nostradamuses to discuss the future.

PPS - I don't see any problem discussing 2013 either but FMD round 2 hasn't finished yet.

Pretty sure Ferguson used his to get out of his Sharks contract to sign with the Raiders when Ricky Stuart left. It has been rumoured quite a bit, but not sure of any other major cases.

I find it pretty stupid that you Beaumont don't want to think about 2013 when you're in a thread that's talking about a player who'll be here in 2013. It's a one off discussion due to Scott's signing, theres many other threads that you can worry about 2012 and round 2 lol
