Adam O'Brien replacement?

I was an advocate for Des if we didn’t get Flanagan… I just read his first signings at the Titans, I believe I’ve misjudged him 😳
I’m glad I’m not running the club 😬

Their cap is going to be a **** fight if injuries or poor form become a thing. Great players but there is such thing as overcapitalisation
 
Serious question: is Tino a great player? I don’t think he’s a top 10 middle and I’m not convinced he’s top 20. He has good basic stats for run metres etc but he’s so meh defensively I honestly don’t think the Titans middle looks any better or worse with him on the field. In fact, he’s such a mistake machine (leads all props in the NRL for errors + penalties conceded, and let me be clear, there’s a bit of a gap between him and the second worst guy in the NRL on this front) that you could argue he’s barely a net positive if at all.

If people are looking at his new contract, which is the same one Taumalolo signed adjusted for inflation basically, and saying it’s a good deal, then I have a new pick for the most overrated player in the game.

I had been wondering if he is good or not i don't see enough of his games to make an informed decision.

I dont think any prop in the game is worth 1 million a season. That's too large a % of the cap for a non spine player that plays about 60 min a game.

Few clubs in the comp could afford to churn through that much cap space on a prop without committing competitive suicide. Talk of signing Haas for the same kind of money is just crazy. Adjusted for minutes played it's just insane.

Looking at stats Fanua-Blake is head and shoulders above Tino.

I reckon Payne Haas is worth a million+ but the ten years is stupid for anyone.

Taumalolo is probably the best middle forward ever but even he couldn’t justify a ten year deal - he’s just not the one man forward pack he used to be and the Cows are tearing their hair out trying to get value out of the remaining years of the deal.

Seeing that and then giving Tino the same deal, who unlike Taumalolo ISN’T the best forward in the game at the time of signing the deal, is insane 😂

And yeah AFB is one of two Warriors middles who are better than Tino IMO.

there will be another cba during the contract, its a risk sure but the second half of the contract 1mil may become par course for your best prop at the club

But I honestly don't think forwards are worth signing on big money for ten years. I can't think of one that has been an elite forward for that long.
Look at Lolo's contract, I would say he has earned his 1mil the last couple of seasons.
 
Ten years is far too long, even 5 is a bit much. And especially so at $1m plus a season and then when part through will likely ask for an upgrade.
Spine players generally play full 80mins and not all are paid that sort of money yet the middle forwards likely only play 40-50mins so when you look at the salary comparisons it seems unfair.
 
The minutes per game for middle forwards is less of a concern to me than the rate at which they can decline. They get so much more wear and tear on their bodies than spine players.

I think if you have the best prop in the game eg Payne Haas, it’s worth paying up a similar amount to what you would one of the best halves, that’s how much difference I think he makes to winning atm - but you only want to do that while they’re still in their physical prime.

If it's a flat rate, then it's not a complete disaster for the Titans. But his manager has done Tino a massive disservice if they haven't negotiated a ratchet clause to go up with the salary cap. Checked out the Titans forum to see what they're saying and they're all pretty happy with it, with a few naysayers getting shot down. Only natural I guess, but I can't believe they're blinding themselves that much to the negativity. Either Tino or the Titans are getting screwed over. For the bigger picture's sake, you'd hope it's Tino who's just decided he loves the club and has committed to a flat rate without completely ruining their salary cap for the next decade.

I've always thought the team has fed off Ponga. And Ponga's lack of commitment to certain areas of the game was something of a cancer to the team. Once Ponga realised that his position in the QLD squad was lost to a younger hungrier version of himself, something woke up inside him. The teams form changed immediately.

But the turnaround in form coinciding with AOBs position being on the line, seems an uncanny coincidence and probably not a coincidence.
 
Interesting perspective from Gus tonight on 100% footy where he said this has been 12 months of hard work for the Knights to get us to where we are (and ofc Ponga moving to FB).

Remember when AOB kept saying every press conference earlier season we just have to trust in the process? I’d like to trust it will now get us a premiership :lol:
