Both years we scraped in. We were also blessed with widely acknowledged 'easy draws'.
And whenever we've made the finals we've been absolutely shown the door by whoever it was we were playing.
'Making the 8' shouldn't be the standard. The expectation we must have is that we're capable of certain things, reliably so, when it's needed. I.e. we absolutely fkn pump the Dolphins this week, and the Bulldogs the week after. And when we make the finals, we play well, to the reasonable best of the teams ability. That should be the standard.
Not, if we were making up the numbers and scraped in and flogged by whoever happened to be in 7th position week 1 lol

If we win our finals game I'd even be prepared to extend AOB's contract for another 12 months to the end of 2025.

Then why stop at 36 months? The problem with the Knights is every couple of years we turf a new coach and that gives the playing group an excuse. AOB has done more than a lot of coaches and we’re clearly this season playing better than we have for a long long time. It’s not just “3 games”, and we’re a good goal kicker away from fighting for a top 4 spot.

First two years he got us to finals. Has always had a strong roster I feel. Last year we had so many key position injuries and from all accounts a disrupted pre season, attributing to a bad year.
This year, the Ponga decision was a wrong decision. But kudos to him for admitting he was wrong and putting him back. Also this year Pongas head knocks and Brailey going down attributed to close losses this year on top of poor kicking.
Now, moving Hasting to the left has made a hugh difference to our attack. Gamble is doing a job on the right. And Crossland has come good. I think Ponga is coming good with his kicking.
So he has, and I think the senior players, Ponga, Hastings, etc worked out what is working and how we should play.
So if we continue on and make a charge to the finals, then of course we extend him. But let’s wait till the end of the year. He is signed next year.

Wrong thread but just going off the “Ponga at 5/8 failed”. I don’t really believe this. I think the biggest fail was sadly Miller at FB.
If he didn’t completely lose his **** then KP could have stayed at 5/8 and kept learning the role. If we got Garrick like we attempted then it could have been a different story.

I still believe KP can make it at 5/8 and that time may come to accomodate someone like Sharpe. HOWEVER, I firmly believe KP needs to become the number one FB in the comp for a number of years before this move happens. Like most fullbacks have until there 5/8 move.

Who cares what the journalists think. If we extended him, they would have been saying the front office doesn't know what thier doing. Because we have only won 3 games. Hooper and buzz would have kept running with agent conspiracy.
The club is 100% doing the right thing looking at all options.
If we keep winning games and make the semis extend him. If not look elsewhere.

I've found that the media loves winning coaches and despises losing coaches. Probably also true of most fan bases though I guess. I remember the knives were out for Kevvie for a while there. Broncs are doing well this year - not a lot of reports saying he's on the outer lately (if he ever was).

And rightly so, we were heading no where fast and part of the reason we have improved is because a rocket had been placed up he's arse and he's job hanging over he's head, the game plan changed and the team is responding to it
Plus having a fit back line and ponga which has taken us to uncharted waters of greatness
It's amazing what happens when the door opens and your arse is on the line... Very much like players who have been ordinary and talks of them being moved on and or contract is at its end start playing extra well

I concur. AOB for a large part of his tenure has lacked standards, cannot comment on training, social attitude etc ( although the Captain Ponga bathroom debacle is indicative of issues ) but on field performances by key players have been largely unacceptable, and yet their selection every week was without doubt or question.
Blame cannot be deflected to roster management, ( no depth ) or anyone else, the fact is the buck stops with the coach - the end.
It will take a lot more than a 4 game winning streak, that is in the broad scheme of things a pittance. I expect 6 and 8 game winning streaks to be business as usual for the Newcastle Knights - every year. Anything less than challenging for the title is a failure.
