2025 Recruitment And Retention

Elliott hasn't consistently delivered since he got here for various reasons but he is still a focal point for our attacking system (or lack thereof).

I think giving him the tap is the right move given how much he's on, given his inconsistency I'd hope we can bridge the performance gap with Croker and Crossland rotating through 13 until a longer-term option becomes apparrent.
Im happy for Elliot to go! His on 700k pa

From a mate who's normally got decent mail, Ponga unhappy with the direction club is taking and wants to win a Premiership, Roosters likely destination.
O’Sullivan is doing what needs to be done for us to build towards a premiership. We are not going to win a premiership with our current team.

If Ponga wants out, we have a quality replacement in Sharpe and it will free up some cap space.

Reading between plenty of lines, Ponga seems to be behind most of the crap when the club goes through turmoil in the playing group.

Honestly can't believe that. Could you imagine the look if knights let their best player leave 3 years early to go to one of the best teams in the comp that is constantly called out for cheating (with no proof)? If that happened the NRL would have to investigate seriously with legal ramifications. If not would just prove corruption all the way to the top.

Then again I think post people suspect they are corrupt anyway lol

Roosters are losing Suaalii, Keary, JWH and Manu, so have a fair bit of money in the bank.

Yeah they would absolutely legitimately have the cap space now, before you factor in the money they save because guys "definitely not affiliated with the club" give the players absurd deals on their housing, give them sweetheart investment opportunities, etc etc etc.

I don't want him to go and yes it would be a bad look if we did but, I don't know. I'm coming around, a little bit, to the idea that the fact that he's not a square peg for the square hole of the fullback position, kind of makes it a little bit hard to build your team around him. He's obviously a more talented player than a Dylan Edwards, but by the same token, the fact that Dylan plays a very specific role (part of the role being his big contribution to their yardage/field position dominance) does kind of make team building a bit easier, maybe.

Sharpe is a real talent and you've got Connor Votano nipping at his heels too, the spine position we're not having any trouble producing talent in is fullback. No longer are you like, "well we've gotta find a spot for Sharpe, maybe we can turn him into a five-eighth? And then Ponga can play five-eighth out of fullback but we can keep him out of the defensive line" etc etc etc. Instead it's all very straightforward. Sharpe is the fullback, unless Votano (who I think is probably going to end up a centre) takes his spot from him.

Still, it’s 1.5m they’d have to pay Ponga when they’ve just resigned a host of players. Also with Manu signing a 1 year deal with Japanese rugby I imagine he’ll be back at the club before the end of next season.

I don’t really see the way the rules are currently how KP could leave if he wants too. Really the only clubs that can stump up the cash it’s be a sideways move. There’s no chance we’d contribute to his salary if he were to leave either.

Ponga could probably get the same money, and they could shift him to 5/8th for a year or 2 and than fullback when Teddy retires.

O'Sullivan has become the clubs most important signing, he definitely has an eye for talent.

I trust that he will identify talented players to help Ponga and make us a genuine premiership threat.

Only downside is it might take a while.

If Ponga leaves so be it, frees up 1.5 million.

If Ponga were to go, you would assume O'Sullivan and Parr have a plan to put together a competitive squad - and Ponga's money is part of the plan.

So - Guys we seem keen on still.
