2025 Recruitment And Retention

You did see him the week before didn’t you?
Dom had very bad games for us as well.

I love Dom and would absolutely love him back but I wouldn’t like to see the end of Schiller either. He’s going to have some massive games and I’d like those games to be for us. Perhaps he doesn’t have to wait long if Marz or Gags has a game like they did against the dogs.

I think he was supposed to replace Gags but he keeps getting better the freak. Imagine how good he will be at 45?

I’m warming to Schiller giving him the benefit of the doubt for being young. But he definitely played bad enough to be dropped. He was atrocious. He was great last weekend though. So rocks and diamonds. Dom and Marz are similar.

Kpp is close to Dom, I wonder if KPP got sick of having noone to pass to, and having another giant player nearby could become amazing. Also having Dom as a team mate may potentially increase the likelihood we keep KPP? I know there's rumours he is already leaving but this may change that?

I don’t think it was POS that signed Schiller. Maybe Schiller is on a decent contract and we are trying to offload him?

Why would we try offload Schiller? Atm (if we don't sign Dom) we have no genuine experienced backup back line players. McCarthy has 2 nrl games and is 21 and he's currently next man up. We need this for depth, and no I don't think Dom walks straight back in, 1 he chose to leave, 2 you can't put him in on his current form because it has been ****, and 3 you can't put him straight in simply because "he was good when he played for us two years ago" let him earn his way back thru cup like anyone else that is in bad form

And is there really going to be clubs lining up to sign Schiller? No offence to the guy, but he’s played 22 games of first grade in four years.
Exactly not with limited squad spot available mid season. He's good for depth and honestly can put pressure on marzhew and Dom, he's not worlds away from them

Our points awards, didn’t Marzhew get half of those in one game, bit of a tough comparison.
KPP and Dom might be close but not when Dom was here he played right wing and KPP left 2nd row until Lucas burst on to the scene

It'd be disheartening for Schiller given he would have been anticipating this would be his breakout year. Will be nice to have talented first-grade depth sitting in NSW Cup for the first time in many years.

Hopefully the pathway to a first-grade spot with Gags nearing retirement is enough to keep him interested in staying at the club long-term.

Got to have competition for spots in an NRL club, all players know it’s better for them and the club. Schiller would know he’s first up if Marz or Dom drop in form or injured. Same with Braddy or Gags. Plus his training and education with Braddy and Gags defensively and attack is only going to be a great learning for him. Plenty of backline players would love to learn from current State of Origin players.

Same goes with McCarthy/Hunt/Votano/Aoake/DeCourcey/Annan. They should all be taking on the training days like an open siv. Got that Canadian Union player coming soon too.
Signing Dom absolutely sires up our backline depth. Schiller and McCarthy are good to go instantly and the others improve each week.

once this is done improving our forward depth will be paramount

Halves depth is looking better than I expected.

Loza and Ryder coming along strongly and Cullen has good traits about him. Finding halves depth for Cup will be it, unless we stick with Cogger and Gamble as back ups.
Chase Butler and Votano (if he stays) will be SG Halves and Ty Ennis and Carter HMatts halves. Depth is looking strong there.

There is absolutely zero reason to release Schiller, we would have signed him for what $350k at the most and probably lower, if he wants to go somewhere else good, but terms should be favourable to us.

On a serious note what has Schiller done to demand loyalty from the club he came here this year.

This bad look stuff? Pfffffft.

Schiller is only in the NRL side because Sharpe is such a good player we moved him into the 6 jersey at Christmas. Certainly hasn’t done anything wrong, but Young is a set and forget right winger for the rest of the decade. We’ve been lucky with our fitness across the outside backs this year, and if anything were to happen Schiller can plug right in.

If this eventuates Im sure privately schiller will be told go back to cup at centre and you have the chance to be our right centre for the next 10 years once gags moves on. Earns the same money and offers him some reassurance around his longterm future.

Sounds like Cheese is out the door to Souths effective immediately.

They have to clear the decks to get DCE? Very odd.

Cheese seems pretty pissed with the Roosters and how he has been treated.
Told he will be training and playing reserves - allegedly.
Notably - “nobody is answering their phones”.

Don’t think Dom would speak very highly of his treatment either.

One thing to be trying to free up some cap space to get somebody in - but seems like they are putting a lot of players offside with their actions and how they are going about it.

I was just about to post the other day, the Roosters “rebuild” lasted 5 rounds. They’ve got Smith and Havala playing well. By all accounts a good junior in Rodwell coming through, and Sam Walker to come back from injury.
Think if they get DCE, it’s going to cause a bit of unrest.

Yeah it all seems super unprofessional to me.

I've heard him talk about when they signed him, they made a show of how Uncle Nick is always available for a phone call & advice (they demonstrated this by having the old boys who were taking Cheese for a round of golf at one of the fancy clubs up there they get free access to call Nick on his mobile for a yarn, totally not planned/rehearsed at all).

Steve Jobs level of flim flam and nonsense.

Sounds more like - if you're "in", you get the royal treatment; if you're "out" you get the silent treatment.

Yeah Sandon Smith being "shopped" is apparently his agent pushing it, with permission. He's not happy - he's been arguably their best and most consistent player this year besides Naf Whyte, and his game looks like a natural fit besides Sam Walker, yet they're pretty openly saying "you will never get a real shot at it while you're here."

I reckon someone will want him.

Some might say this is proof of how great the Roosters are as a club - even though he's going well, they look at him and say, nope this guy isn't rep calibre, he's simply not "sexy" enough to be a Roosters player - but I reckon it's actually a sign they've lost their way a bit. They've wholeheartedly embraced being the Real Madrid of this league. But when they were winning comps, they had heaps of guys who were just really honest hard workers. I reckon they never would have looked at someone like Reece Robson if he didn't get that Blues jersey...

As if an NRL club works this way. Rosters change at the blink of an eye, say Manu became an option would we than not go for him because Schiller was promised centre.

I am sure players get told what position there seen as, aside from elite players, no one would be promised or insinuated to have a position.
