2024 Season

With Flegg hopefully making a run for the title and our Cup team finding some form late with a young team and a few unexpected faces. What and who are the green shoots we want to see kick on in 2025???

this post probably belongs in the 2025 recruitment thread or the 2025 pre-season thread

In light of Latrell Mitchell’s latest indiscretion, why isn’t NRL turning up to drug test him like they did with Kurt Mann and Ponga?

What are the key differences that allow such a different approach?

Grant Anderson playing halfback for Melbourne.
He used to play mostly fullback but some 5/8 for us in juniors. Halfback is a stretch though.

A perfectly reasonable question.

Is Newcastle purchased cocaine performance enhancing?

I was very curious so looked up the previous cases.

Valentines Holmes was not drug tested as he was on “annual leave” and there are agreements in place for that situation.

4 Roosters were target tested earlier this year - Leniu, Whyte, May, dockar-clay, Brandon Smith were in that video. Only 4 were tested, allegedly.

Reece Walsh - arrested for cocaine possession, not tested as it was off-season.

Munster, Brandon Smith and co were also not tested as it was considered off-season.

Considering there’s a 12 match ban on the line for testing positive a second time.
Technically, I guess they can’t prove they have taken cocaine without a positive drug test. Otherwise, you’d assume B Smith would’ve had his second offence if the allegations were correct.

Anyway, there’s no reported testing performed for Latrell, no reason reported. Seems he can’t be on annual leave as he’s pictured in training clothes and they are pushing for him to be “match fit and ready” for next week. So why can’t they test him?

Not meaning to sound vindictive, but it’s frustrating that there’s no consistency to these cases.

If they were testing for cocaine, it takes less than a day to pass through the system, so doing a test a week later would be pointless.
Some drugs stay in the system for weeks or even months, but cocaine isn't one of them.

I think it would be exceptionally hypocritical to throw stones from the glass house that is the Newcastle Knights in respect of the Latrell issue, we've historically benefited from policy or lack thereof on this matter much more than we've suffered.

Bloke isn't harming anyone other than himself, far far far worse indiscretions in the game than what he or any of the others mentioned have done.

Bloke is sending a poor message to his fans and young aspiring players.
He should just accept his punishment and one game ban should be served next season as he is out injured. Would hate to see him run out as fit to play when not, integrity.
