2024 Recruitment and Retention Thread - Rebuild 2: This Time It’ll Work For Sure (Unironically)

I think we need to be really careful with changing the team too much. We had everyone playing their parts well at the back end of the year. If we make heaps of changes with Dsaf etc we might take the first half of the year to gel again.

Having said that, Brailey I still think is better than Crossland, I wouldnt want him to go even though he wasn't part of the 10 game streak. I want to see how those 2 go sharing the Hooking role, with Crossland utility.

Toohey reckons Tom Jenkins has signed
The thing that worries me about Jenkins is that he seems like a rough diamond with things to work on, but he has been in the Penrith system for years, and you usually expect players from that system to be pretty much a finished product.

Dare say he’d be signed for $200-$250k? Fringe first grader, Marz was signed for around $180k first yr. I think it’s Enari’s spot to lose, up to Jenkins/McCarthy/Moceidreke to take it.

I thought the exact opposite when I watched him hahaha. Thought he looked capable and like he understood his role, but with a not particularly high ceiling.

I'm going on watching him in a few reserve grade games where he often looks far too good for that grade, and then makes dumb errors that leave you shaking your head. A Nathan Ross type vibe.

I mean just let Jenkins mapa and tuala fights it out over the off season. The club has obviously made the decision to not spend big money on wingers so we have to take a gamble with young guys

Jenkins is at least young with some form of potential upside, believe he was more of a centre before this season so that could become a factor too.

Starting the season with Tuala likely as first-choice is dire, a couple of handy games against the Dogs and Dragons in the last couple rounds isn't gonna wipe the other 50+ games he's played for us from memory. Was also very average in Cup the handful of times I got to watch him play throughout the season.

Fingers crossed Jenkins can bring something worth starting or hopefully Moceidreke sticks his hand up over the off-season.

I prefer tuala ctr and gags wing atm with the current options we have. Hopefully mapz has a big offseason and might try and jag that spot from tuala. Is there a world where pryce could play wing?

Yep, Jenko is a smart cheap signing.
Plenty of potential and doesn't break the bank.
I could see him starting on the wing and eventually taking over from Gags.

Moceidreke looks to have all the physical attributes of a modern day winger. Hopefully after a preseason or two he makes massive improvements.

The biggest appeal of Jenkins is that he’s come into the top grade on both wings and has played about the same standard on either wing, and he also has played centre a lot in Cup. Very much screams depth/squad player and whatever your opinion on Tuala, having a guy who can come in for a game or two and cover anywhere from 2-5 creditably has been valuable. Also from what I’ve seen he puts in when it comes to yardage work (he’s not elite at it, but you’d rather someone who tries over say a Starford To’a, who could be elite at it but won’t have a dig). This versatility could prove very handy if we’re less lucky with injuries to outside backs next season.
