2024 Recruitment and Retention Thread - Rebuild 2: This Time It’ll Work For Sure (Unironically)

If we were to let Brailey go, injury/cost, then Brown is a must and also full steam ahead for any of our young potential hookers to be fast tracked in experience through Cup side, no makeshift just an out and out hooker

I'm hesitant because I'd like to see what Brails could add to this side if he were to stay fit, but ultimately we saw a pretty significant drop in performance post-achilles and Phoenix has gotten us to the semis.

If Brails is on 600k there could be genuine value in going from Brailey to Brown, the type of player we could potentially leverage a swap with another club as well - Dragons, Eels, Raiders would probably be the 3 main clubs looking for a 9.

Edit: post-achilles, got Brails injury order wrong.

Raiders seem pretty content on going forward with the Woolford/Starling/Levi trio of plod. Woolford still has another year and Starling/Levi were both given new 2-year extensions in the past couple of months.

Dragons, Eels & Sea Eagles have been 3 teams that come to mind as good fits for Brailey but who knows what their cap situations are really like. Think Manly were meant to be pretty close to capacity, so maybe they should send us Reuben Garrick in return and we'll call it even.

Cogger is a handy player to have on the books, looks like he can play 9, 6 or 7. Let Brailey go, he seems like a very likeable player but it has to be run as a business these days.

He can't really play 9.
Penrith have used him there and had him defending out in the centres and doing 10 tackles.
They have him doing it as a plan C in case they need a plan C in the grandfinal.

Hopefully he plays.
It would be a great experience for a player coming here next year to have played in a GF.

It may be all speculation, but my 2 cents if the Saifiti and brailey situation happens, would be to secure player swaps.

Brailey to dragons for Lomax (CTR)

  • improves our goal kicking %
Also would consider ravalawa (Wing)

Saifiti to bulldogs for max king (LOCK)

  • helps cap management
  • Very consistent player

Off contract Cheapies:
Billy burns (2RW)

Eddie blacker (Prop)

Charlie Staines (Wing)

Give dragons both dsaf and Brailey for hunt 😂😂😂
If the swap was for Lomax that means pushing gags to wing

Not the clubs I’d point to as examples tbh. Panthers are losing Leniu and Crichton and will likely replace both with their own juniors, and are in a fight to hold onto Jarome Luai. Brisbane are losing Herbie Farnworth and Tom Flegler and replacing them with Deine Mariner (Broncos junior) and Fletcher Baker (mid Roosters prop on a small contract). Majority of both rosters was internally developed.

The sketchy one was how the Roosters were freeing up money for Leniu and Dom Young with the retirement of JWH and Daniel Tupou, and then neither retired and both were re-signed. 🤔

I have pointed out on here before specific tactics the Roosters use to 'manage' their cap (on mail so good it isn't mail). You can legitimately, and by the rules, flex the cap more than most realise. The Roosters are just in the best position to do it.

Yeah that might be the most frustrating thing about it. Just being a Rooster opens so many “legitimate” opportunities to make extra money (quotations because they shouldn’t be legit).

"I've got no idea where that one come from to be really honest," Flanagan told 2GB's Wide World of Sports Radio.

"I see Jayden a fair bit, we're family friends and he grew up (with Kyle) obviously a little bit older than Kyle but him and Blayke (Brailey) are good family friends.

"I don't know whether someone has seen me with him or something like that and they've put two and two together but he's on contract at the Knights."

"He's had a tough run (with injury)," he said.

"I'd love to have a player like Jayden Brailey but he's on contract and we'll leave it at that."

Interesting when this rumour about Dsaf namely came out earlier in yr he didn’t deny it and said cap pressure was definitely an issue.

This is only a minor reply, but interesting none the less. Plus the Best photo last night (why have a meeting in public?) be interesting where we get to with player signings in off season with all the Sydney media saying we’ll be losing x player and x player due to cap restraints. Or can having a good yr work in our favour.
