2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

The “new rules” are kind of a bit dead a bit now though aren’t they? Jason Taumalolo is back to looking like a waaaaaaay more valuable player than someone like Victor Radley. That Cronulla pack full of fat ****ers who’d fatigue out of games last year looks pretty good now. Only Penrith really buck the trend but I reckon guys like Fisher Harris and Leota can bench double their body weight, so strong in defensive contact, and they always get a ****load of yardage from their athletic outside backs. But yeah big forwards are kind of back “in” again.

Unfortunately the Saifitis are messing us about by playing bad (though the atrocious dummy half service has to take a fair bit of blame).
This is why I'm not overly concerned about our season at this point, Klem is showing the same sort of renaissance compared to the last couple of seasons. If we can get the Safs back in form our middle is as good as they come and will pave the way for some big performances - one of the big keys to that IMO will be releasing some pressure through more yardage from our outside backs.

In saying that, there's still definitely a place for good smaller forwards - If Reuben Cotter was off contract we'd have to be all over him, Radley is falling victim to the Roosters woes and realistically has always been a budget Murray/Yeo.

Actually think Radley was better than Murray a couple of years ago. I suspect winning the comp twice in your first two seasons might make you a bit less motivated though lol.

In the latest Toohey podcast he says the training staff are really happy with Milford. He is training 3 or 4 times every day and getting very fit.
He also says they are only taking 22 players on the 10 day camp to Qld. With the 18 they'll need this week and all the guys due back next week, I can't see them having any room for Milford or any other non available guys.

Milford was there in Townsville as was Clifford Mann jirah

Off reading thooeys news this morning. Could be quite the turn around if we extend Milford and sign Pryce. That’d be a Pryce, Milford, Cliff, Clune, Crossland depth in playmakers. Still think they need to discover a young organising half. Along the lines of Kurt Falls. But still if all these sign on it’s good quality depth.

I don't think Clifford will be here next season in fact i wouldn't be at all suprised if we don't see him in a knights jersey again which would be a pity as i think he is a talent but Familly first .

I agree that if Clifford wants to put his family first and head back to Townsville then that is 100% what he should do and the club should let him. However, I doubt the Cows would want him back for anything more than a minimum contract. I know money isn’t everything but is he going to be able to walk away from 300-400k+ for the next couple of years.
