2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Tex Hoy shopping himself around apparently. Trying to get a regular NRL starting spot at another club.
Can't think of any side that would want him for anything other than a back up. His best shot is probably at the Knights, unless he wants to go to a Storm or Panthers as a back up look really good there and try and jag something out of that.

Teams that may look at taking hoy
Bulldogs -dufty is going
Melbourne -cheap back up utility smith is going
Tigers - daine Lauire replacement if he does infact leave
Dolphins- they need players

I can think of a couple of teams...Lakes and his old club Souths..:giggle:

So much for loyalty to our players, he ain’t Andrew Johns, but who is, but I believe he gives as good as he can, just not quite what we need but he is better than Lakes and South’s

our number 1 focus needs to be a quality half. keary apparently on 1.3m for 2023, cant justify that though. for me id be putting everything into getting mitch moses for 2024 and let the player agent do his thing and work on a release for 2023.

Four to fix us, two halves and two 2nd rowers, need them for 2023
Let Crosslands, Hoy, Barnett (gone), Sue, Musgrove and others go and with spare money in kitty should be able to afford good replacements

What reason would top tier halves like Munster/Keary/Moses be coming to Newcastle to play for the last placed team?

The most realistic scenario is someone tells KP he's a half (and take the (c) off him), Clifford gets himself sorted out and we find or manufacture a fullback (Hodgson, Pryce or other).

Hoy‘s performance has improved this year we should give him at least a few more games in first grade to see how he goes.

The funny thing about this “Chooks moving Keary, Crichton & JWH to sign Munster” rumour is that Buzz throws that out there on his dumbass show, Braith Anasta - Munster’s manager - is literally sitting at the same table and says “the Roosters haven’t reached out to me or Cameron at all”, which pretty definitively demonstrates Buzz is just talking out the bottom of of the bottle of wine he polished off before coming on air, but then other places go on to report it like there’s a lot of juice in it.

the simple answer is money and job security. longterm deal and a lifestyle change that newcastle offers is appealing to some. the idea that winning is the main motivation for all NRL player is absurd in this day and age. footballers want to make money and set themselves up for life after footy,

Keary/Moses/Munster have no reason to live in Newcastle for a "lifestyle change", so money it is.

These guys will attract top dollar anywhere they go, so it would need to be a godfather offer and then you have the dolphins with an open chequebook if they don't care about winning (and want to go home in the case of munster/keary).

It's just pie in the sky stuff, we'd be 1000/1 to sign any of them. We struggled to keep the one marquee we already have.

Keary/Moses I'd understand about the lifestyle as Sydney has that beach/close quarters life. Munster......well I think Melbourne is a ****hole personally. So Newcastle would be a lifestyle change.

Munster could go out in Melbourne still and not be recognised some of the time.

Newcastle everyone knows you.

Anyway, we are long odds to sign any of the top halves. Ponga needs to move to the halves, Clifford needs to partner him and we need a proper traditional fullback.
