2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Garrick is funny, some games you think they don't miss turbo he's going so good, then every once in a while he has an absolute stinker

Still, this plan is better than ponga doing a **** job at trying to play fb and half at the same time.

Have said for years that moving Ponga to 6 would be huge for us. There's a bunch more people that can play fullback at a first grade level than there is blokes who can play in the halves.

If Garrick is the guy that instigates the shift, I'm all for it - despite his relatively low ceiling. I wish Hodgkinson had kicked on harder.

A pretty reliable instagram page.

They stated that this had been sent to them by one of their followers with not a lot of substance.

Apparently Ponga has been training at 5/8 the past few weeks.

Garrick has been thrown up as an option as he would be cheap and is also an excellent goal kicker, something the team needs.

I’ve liked Garrick at fullback he gains heaps of metres and has plenty of speed.

Well I’m in favour of both moves if true. And it also makes me more positively disposed towards the Gamble move, was worried about a serious class deficit with Gamble & Clifford/Clune in the halves. Gamble is a very low-ceiling prospect but he combined pretty well with Mam so you’d imagine he would also with Kalyn.

Gamble is also really really desperate to play first grade full time and I can imagine he’d be open to playing lock down the line (definitely has the size and defensive ability for it) - I’m not gonna say Gamble 13 Ponga on the left Pryce on the right will automatically be great, but I can imagine it being something which works and it makes sense as something to build towards.

Just let KP do what he’s good at like Keary, Cody Walker, Jarome Luai, Dylan Brown and a few others get to - let him run the left hand side attack. He will create points at a much better clip if he’s doing that instead of trying to be James Tedesco.

Garrick at fullback is definitely a much more pleasing prospect than more Clune as the left-sided half, and it also makes more sense of our rumoured interest in Scott Drinkwater, who’s definitely shown himself to be a better fullback than half this year. Drinks would be the perfect option to replace what we lose in attack with Garrick at 1 instead of KP.

Could we please please get Drinks

If we got Garrick would we still be after Brooks?
1.Garrick
6.Ponga
7.Brooks
9.Brailey

Is a lot more appealing than,

1.Ponga
6.Clifford
7.Clune
9.Brailey

I'd Love to have Clifford and Clune in NSW Cup for majority of the year

The cowboys won’t release Drinkwater unfortunately

Yeah it’d have to be for 2024, and there will be competition for his signature.

The good news is he won’t be the most sought after player - that would be Munster - and he would likely be behind players like Burton, Moses and even Doueihi in the feeding frenzy we’ll see after Nov 1 (assuming those players don’t extend their deals ahead of time).

But yeah if Scotty is looking to get paid, he’s a great option to put that unused Pearce money towards. In my opinion.

In saying that re: Drinkwater, I’ve been impressed with Garrick at fullback, much more than I expected. A bit Dylan Edwards-esque in his physicality and hard work in yardage, but without the part where he blows 3-on-1 overlaps all the time and only scores tries backing up his five-eighth.

I also kind of suspect Garrick has a strong objection to a lot of his teammates now after the Pride jersey ****.

Is Garrick the Manly player who has gay siblings?

He’s from the Central Coast. Having lived there myself for almost ten years growing up, I can tell you that Central Coasties don’t think of themselves as Hunter locals.
'Local' in the sense that he's quite close to Newcastle. Certainly closer than Melbourne and Townsville where he's played the past few years. Regardless, he ain't coming to play for us.
