Rewatching the Tigers/Broncos game, Madden really went well. More of a natural & intelligent ball player than Brooks in terms of how he holds up defenders and times his pass at the line (Brooks has always relied on his running game and he’s great throwing the flash money ball on the end of a shift, but identifying & probing at weaknesses in the line? Ehhhhh). Kicked really well in good ball too.
But it’s a lot easier sitting on one side of the field and waiting for a numbers advantage or disorganised line to pop up in front of you, than it is to create it in the first place. It’s because of Hasting’s work earlier in sets manipulating the line, isolating his bigger forwards onto the players they’ve identified as the weak links (last week it was Townsend & Nanai, against Brisbane it was Riki & Reynolds). Jock will have to shoulder more of that load against us and it will be very interesting to see how he goes. I might actually watch him closer than I watch us next weekend hahaha.
I see a good player in Madden though, got a lot going for him.
I’ve gotten weirdly into watching Tigers games, it’s fascinating watching good spine players - disagree all you like, I rate all of them except Liddle & Brooks - work behind an almost historically bad pack
