2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Collecting all the NSW Cup level half/utility options isn't a great plan for first grade, but hopefully it's a nice problem for the NSW Cup coach to find spots for Clune, Gamble, Crossland, Randall. Johns and Simi

Klem has signed for 3 years with the Tigers with a mutual option for a 4th year.

I wish him and his family all the very best.

Still waiting for the Hastings announcement.

However, what pisses me off about this whole scenario Is this.

I can guarantee you and I'm willing to bet both my left nut and right nut on this.

Klemmer will get to the Tigers and he will play out of his skin for them, somehow Sheens will get him to play the way "Modern" forwards are now starting to play and Klemmer will have another spell as an absolute enforcer.

Anyone dumb enough to bet against what I just said needs to be lobotomised.

Klemmer is 29 in December and the tigers have him for 3 or 4 years. Big risk considering you'd think he would be on 600k or so and will be 32 or 33 when he finishes up. Big risk for Tigers with not a lot of reward because he is only a front rower at the end of the day. Don't get me wrong great player and has been one of our best this season but has also had a bad year or two with us in his 4 years here. A front rower that offers what he does is replaceable, just have a lot of heart and big motor.

I completely agree with to an extent.

Klemmer Is a bit of an anomaly for his age, but maybe I'm comparing him to our current lot of Forwards and he was outshining them week In week out this year.

Which In reality the bar wasn't set very high for him to beat considering.

But If history Is anything to go by once players have left this club, Klemmer Is going to have a second reckoning.

Yeah for sure, Croker isnt as big as Klemmer but shoes similar heart and passion for our team like Klemmer.

Just remember that he is going to the tigers not some actual NRL team, its only the tigers just remember that. Would agree with you 100% if he was heading to anywhere else haha

The club has put a red line through big props all the way down the roster - Klem, Jirah, Pasami, Dan Ticehurst, the Johhanson brothers, Jaron Purcell - all big, one dimensional metre eater props.
We suddenly like smaller, mobile, a bit agile type props like Thompson, Croker, Talty, Toloi, Toleafoa, Bradbury, Bryan, Cooper Jenkins etc.

I think the plan is that having a Saifiti on the field at all times is all the tall timber you need, and props need to play a bit of eyes up footy and not just barge into the defence 15 times.

Was definitely cover for the halves so we didn’t end up with another Crossland/Clune first choice debacle.
Yep in the signing announcement when we picked him up, it honestly might as well have read "don't worry guys he's not gonna be our first option, we'll figure something out".

I still reckon it was a no-brainer, he honestly might be the best back up half in the NRL.

Crocker seems to have a bit of ball playing, and a bit more footwork can hit holes from what I've seen from him so far.

I think you are underestimating the Tiger's pack next year, particularly if they sign Bateman. And they have Api, one of the best hookers in the game right now. With Sheens as a coach, you could see a different side next year. Be interesting to see how brooks goes behind a better pack.

Miller is the final piece of the puzzle. Watched a couple of his NSW cup games last year and he was a level above. He has 1st grade written all over him. Starting to get a little excited about the season ahead. Knights game should be entertaining and not just one out boring plays.

Wests pack (if they get Bateman):

8. Klemmer
9. Koroisau
10. Utoikamanu
11. Bateman
12. Papali'i
13. Ofahengaue

14. Simpkin
15. Twal
16. Blore
17. Pole

No doubt it's the best pack Brooks has ever played behind and they're letting Hastings go because they reckon Api will be able to fill the void in terms of direction etc etc.

Their bigger issue going forward now is that their backline might be the worst in the NRL but I don't think they'll come last again.

Any1 sub to DT to read how Sharks have apparently "SLAMMED DOOR SHUT" on Lachie Miller coming here? Substance or fluff piece? etc etc
