2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

I don't know why we are still chasing Brooks.

Tigers say they won't release him, so its 2024 when he'd arrive
I assume he will cost us around $800,000, which is $300,000 too much
He hasn't played any finals games and can't provide the leadership we desperately need
He plays left side of the field, same as Ponga, so i don't see how that works for us

Hastings on the other hand:
Is a halfback but is forced to play out of position at the Tigers
He improved the side straight away and the Tigers fell away once he was injured
Bateman is coming to the Tigers and apparently Hastings and Bateman don't get along, so Hastings will want a release
We could get Hastings now for 2023
We could get him for around $500,000
He plays on the right side of the field, so Ponga can play left
He also goal kicks better than the rest of our team
He will provide leadership and accountability, which we desperately need

* It has already been brought up but I think it's time to move our attention away from Brooks, we don't need the pressure of maybe loosing a player like Klem to help pay Brooks' wage. We should move our attention to Jackson Hastings who we seen have an immediate impact on the Tigers and their results, who is also on the outer at the club.
* With no official news of the Dylan Lucas signing, I feel like he isn't on a fulltime contract. If that's the case we should be looking at Daniel Atkinson (Italian centre & also a Q Cup half).
* For me, Lachie Miller is an obvious selection, missed out of Garrick so lets chase after Miller and get an early release because they have Dykes as backup fullback.
* And if i have done my math right we would have one spot left and I feel like we are lacking front row depth. Should either be looking at one of these PNG props (who have been killing it) or Matt Doorey from the bulldogs, only 22 years old and has a handful of experience and can do a job if called upon during the season.
Lachie miller has a touch background right and has played 1 game of full back in the nrl? He looks elusive but I would question any kind of play making ability, defence or ability to set a defensive line. Could just be a very much worse version of Ponga that everyone likes to bash.

News to me. Last I heard they were looking at giving him a shot in grade.

Seems a common trend of letting your hardest working players go. The club was built around those players. Now we reward numpties.
Hope you are right, the daughter is reporting it off social media

Have they looked at him and thought he'd be a Dallas Johnson style of lock and they want something more dynamic? I'd love a workhorse at lock atm

Purcell and Donoughoe are too old for Flegg next year, so they had to make a call on their future.
With so many young guys coming through we'll have very few second tier positions next year.
I expect the reserve grade team will be mostly top 30 players and Flegg age players getting experience next year - so Purcell and Donoughoe would struggle for game time with us. At least they'll have a chance to play most games in Qld cup.
I'd still like to keep them though.

Lot of negativity here at the moment and that's probably not unreasonable given how we are going at the moment.

A real positive is KPP lining up at right centre inside dom young for England beating out guys like Farnworth. I've got a gut feeling that if he had stayed injury free young Bailey hodgeson could have been a similar type asset.

I wonder if young will Pryce could become a ballplaying lock in 2024?

1. Hodgeson
6. Ponga
7. Brooks/Hastings
13. Pryce

Not saying this is a top 4 spine, but there is some talent there in my opinion, and if we can keep building with value signings in the forwards and outside backs we should go ok.

I thought our best three players on the field in the Flegg gf were Purcell, Cant and Donahue and we've lost two of them.
And Johnson was probably the most consistent across the season. Big centre with top defence, pace and footwork.. smart bunch we are. They’ve all moved in for reserve grade opportunities, all wanted to stay..
