2020 Top 30 Squad

Just a thought on some possibly forgotten players who contributed in 2019 but not in top 30 so couldn’t play in firsts.
Cooper, winger, played 21 games
Andrews, centre played 15 games, 6 injured?
Gagai, wing/centre/f-b, played 16, 5 injured?
Alifi, prop, played 19, 2 injured?
Hoskings, lock/13, played 16, 5 injured
These blokes played lots of games, went well with no chance of firsts, not saying should be contracted but surely considered based on salary cap restrictions and effort for the year.
Just putting it out for discussion, thoughts, ideas.

Hosking had a massive year. He made over 50 tackles a few times. In one game he made 51 tackles, ran 151 metres and played 70 minutes at lock.
His profile says he is 190 cm and 93 kg, but I think that's a bit out of date and he probably weighs 100+ kg by now.
He didn't get a firstgrade preseason this year after being one of our better trainers in 2018. I'd give him another one to see if he is ready now.

I'd also definitely give Mitch Andrews a second firstgrade pre season. We need depth in his centre/winger position and he is a talented player.

Would love to see us pick up Enari Tuala. He's a young gun and would be at a basement price. Wonder why he was let go by the Cowboys though.

I too was mystified a couple weeks ago when they announced it but a reliable poster on the Cowboys forum has said he had some discipline issues this year...

Since he has been killing all junior grades and Q-Cup and the whole coaching staff have been banging his drums the last two years I would of thought they would try and rectify his issues but obviously thought better off without.

I for one am really disappointed as he is a gun player and someone like Bellamy could easily turn him into a origin rep in my opinion.

"someone like Bellamy could easily turn him into a origin rep in my opinion"

Or someone from the Storm system with a similar mentality?

Don't we now have a coach from the Storm system .

Brown wasn't full on coaching though was he and Obrien was there for a lot longer I think .

Brown was already an experienced coach who got a taste of the Melbourne culture. Obi was learning, marinated in the culture and then got a good look at another winning culture last year.

Glad to see Levi picked in the best of the bunch at the World 9's. Didn't see much of his play but have read he did really well. If he's still with us in 2020, I hope he keeps that form up through next year and causes a real selection headache for Obi.

I saw a couple of the Samoa matches and he looked the goods. He's not a blue-chip hooker, but when in form he's at least 1st grade standard.

Those performances won't have done his prospects any harm.

His grubber that led to a try was quality. If he done that with us and it didn't come of he'd be a selfish brat knuckle head with a bad attitude that's not a team player.

9s and playing for Samoa really lets Levi play the style he played as a young guy in under 20s.
He'll never have the motor to play with that high energy style for 80 minutes in firstgrade, but if O'Brien worked with him to bring that for 30 minutes in the middle of games, he could have a lot of impact.
I saw in one article that O'Brien plans to have talks with some players as soon as he officially starts work and the only one mentioned by name was Levi. From that, I think he might not have completely written Levi off yet.

Levi does get a really bad wrap from Knights fans. He's a talented player & with the right environment & nurturing he could be a long term NRL player. I'm holding out hope he sees out his contract to get a chance to work with O'Brien, the unfortunate thing is that it's sort of untenable to have him, Watson & Brailey all on the books competing as hookers.

a 26 year old halfback who has played 2 firstgrade games for the Titans.
He does have some skills - but seems pretty similar to Lino only less experienced.
