Article in the herald describes Ponga as the junior Kangaroos' most dangerous player at 5/8.

That was about his 5th game at 5/8 and he is a 21 year old.

We think of him as a well established firstgrader, but he's a kid who could still be anything. He's still learning what he can do. You see him do something new nearly every game.

I think he could eventually make a world class half.
    But imo not next year.

I think he'll be a world class half as soon as someone gives him half a season to get used to the position.

He's been refused bail which isn't a good sign. Surely he'll be deregistered or, at best, he'll be suspended for a substantial period. It could open the door for Levi there.

    How stupid can you be?

I know Rugby League cops poor treatment from the media but this moron is proving the stereotype to be correct.

First milestone for the squad is tomorrow. Only 24 will be announced I imagine.

These players are off contract this year. Indulge me, I'm going to predict what happens with them this year. Bear in mind, I'm doing it through the lens of Obi saying he will pick a good defender over a good attacker every time.

    Mitch Barnett
    Herman Ese'ese
    Beau Fermor
    Aidan Guerra
    Brodie Jones
    Josh King
    Danny Levi
    Mason Lino
    Tautau Moga
    Daniel Saifiti
    Jacob Saifiti
    Psami Saulo
    Connor Watson

Barnett - an easy one, about to resign, should lock down an edge

Ese'ese - very interesting, should improve under Obi but his defensive lapses will come under close scrutiny from Obi. Given he was basically available last year and no one moved for him, we do have time to make up our mind whether he gets retained or not, but I think he struggles to get a new deal.

Fermor - love his style, but how does he come back from his knee injury? Could be resigned late in the season if he gets some good footy under his belt

Guerra - I love this guy. His first season here reminded me of Marc Glanville, the guy who would continually clean up for other guys. Last year saw a dip in form. Was it age? Obi should love his style. If he gets a new deal, it would probably be much reduced on what he us on now, and he probably becomes a year to year proposition. My guess is he doesn't get a new deal, has thrived under Obi if he does. An early indication will be if he is in the starting 13 come round one, means Obi was impressed with his preseason.

Jones - the sort of guy who would thrive in the Melbourne system. Tough, a good defender, a bit about him with the ball. I predict we will see a bit of him in first grade this year and he will get a lower end deal again for next year.

King - shorter forwards are coming in to vogue again, but mainly because they are more dynamic than King. He made massive strides defensively last year which should put him in good stead with Obi, but doesn't do enough with the ball. Probably won't resign.

Lino - good talent coming through probably means he isn't retained
