2017/2018 Knights Player signing speculation

Hagan wasn't exactly a star when he came to us.
He was third choice half at Canterbury behind Mortimer and Lamb. He was in and out of firstgrade and often played lock forward or fullback when he did get a game.
He did get a game for Qld in the days they plucked guys out of reserve grade, but he was a fringe player who came to us to get regular firstgrade games in the halves.

Had won the '88 grand final at halfback though, with Mortimer out injured.

It appears the salary cap is limited after negotiations today to $8.84 million. Already some negotiations have broken down with the reduced anticipated cap.

Also JT is about to sign a million dollar deal with the Cowgirls. He and the other JT won't leave much for the rest. Uncle Rusty to the resue?

Lol a season without a cap because every club will be over it. We aren't!

The point of the cap is to move the talent around. I get the NRL stuffed up with not working out the cap amount earlier, but clubs shot themselves in the foot by signing players before they knew what it was, for money based on the assumption of what the cap will be.

Seems like a great time to enforce some spreading out of the talent :D

He might have got more than 5 games for QLD except for the handy halves they had at the time Langer and Lewis.

I can't see the NRL screwing over the big clubs who have likely spent over 9 Mil of their cap. The idea of sitting back and waiting for clubs to offload their players isn't very proactive IMO.

I'd still try and target some young forwards looking for more football and opportunities......

Everything's coming up Milhouse if we manage to jag this guy. I did a lil bit of lurking on Bird and this interview he did in the 2016 preseason gives me a bit of confidence. Interesting parts are at around 9 and 22 minutes in.

Thanks for posting that.

Interesting he was a knights fan. And that he idolizes Johns.

I think I read something about the club using some club legends to help with the recruitment of Bird. Any bet Johns was involved?

If true, this is a classic case of jumping the gun! Maybe even counting your chickens before they hatch! In all seriousness though, if true, this will be a very good outcome for us. Hopefully expediting the recruitment of quality players! Very good news for us!
