It may just be that the club is applying due diligence and going through a series of processes, but, if they were leaning towards Rick Stone, I would have thought it appropriate to start his tenure and the 2015 rebuilding process now? It kind of makes me think they're leaning another way?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with Stone getting the job. I'm just trying to interpret the signs lol ;)

Everyone outside of the Knights still believes that Wayne Bennett is still a supercoach. So, if we kick him out early and put in stone it would seem like we were replacing a piece of gold with a silver spoon. But in reality, we would just be replacing a wooden spoon with a silver spoon.
Well Bennett is pretty obviously anti-Stone, and he still seems to have Gidley etc eating out of his hand, so it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Andrew Johns was anti Stone on triple m last night saying the club needs fresh ideas especially in attack and needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. I agree with Johns, it's time we moved on from the last 3 years and the best way to do that would be with Brennan as head coach.

Would hate to get Griffin. I couldn't believe he persisted with Hunt as bench hooker for most of last year with Wallace at 7 and now this year he's kept Hoffman at 6 who can't pass. He dropped Hannant to QLD Cup despite averaging big metres off the bench. Gagai wouldn't get a run in FG at Brisbane.
We'd be pulling our hair out with his team selections and stubbornness if there needed to be changes.

This is our problem. Look at where Brisbane are sitting? Look at the half Hunt is today. Didn't make friends, but he is getting results.

Would we be successful under him, though? Brisbane are in a good position because they have one of the stronger rosters in the comp and I suppose Griffin is a decent man manager. I'd still argue his coaching ability is average which is why Brisbane have struggled under him up until recently. Brennan or Stone are better options, I reckon.

I'm not saying Griffin is our man. I'm saying we need someone to make tough coach with direction.
Wayne has ruffled zero feathers.
My worry for Stone is that all the players probably want him in charge, like a mate.

Oh, I definitely agree with that. Without really knowing who we should go for, I'm leaning towards Brennan as the guy to go with. Knows the place well and is a former police prosecutor, so hopefully he's not afraid to make the tough decisions and can work well with the team.

Stone has all the knowledge and ties with our juniors and NSW Cup players, he's got years of experience at the club and he's a coach you'd know the pre-Bennett players would really want to play for at least. But it still just feels like it'd still be a step backwards, our recruitment will struggle no doubt and for me I don't know if he's the type of coach who will pull the players heads in and get them firing as one.
With Brennan at least the unknown is exciting, it'd be make or break, we know what to expect with Stone but Brennan could be 1000 times better or 1000 worst at NRL level. He could also be someone who players want to come to Newcastle to play under like they did for Robinson. It's a gamble but one I'd be happy to take since Stone taking his coaching to the next level is just as big of an unknown.
Then I go back to feeling bad for Rick if he doesn't get his promised position, it'd be a kick in the guts to him for sure, he's a good guy, but that's the nature of the NRL beast.

Unfortunately the good guys are the ones who get the raw end of the deal. Until these past 12-18 months I never realised how political and jobs for the boys this NRL beast is.
