2013 Holden Cup U20s Thread

went to the game.
Both sides suited up two teams.
We were basically destroyed in the first half by George Jennings. He either scored or set up about 5 tries by running down the side of Khalele Bowen and Josh Alison. He swatted those two off like flies and out ran them, and if the cover defence got across he either swatted them off too, or passed to the four guys who followed him all game. Highlight for us was Clydesdale, who owned the middle of the field in both attack and defence, and did most of our kicking too.

In the second game we were more competitive, but still lost by a few tries. The back up hooker looked pretty good - I think it was a slimmed down Zack Walsh, because a lot of shouting 'Walshy' was going on

Jeremy Maá got a run in both halves at prop, and he went well.

All in all - we got flogged - hope we have some better players for the next trial, and i suspect we do.

George Jennings will play firstgrade this year.

1. Honeti Tuha, 2. Lachlan Shipard, 3. Pat Mata'utia, 4. Josh Allison, 5. Jake Mamo, 6. James Desaxe, 7. Eddie Proudler, 8. Jackson Hill, 9. Adam Clydesdale, 10. Jah Pakau, 11. Joseph Tapine, 12. I really hope that isn't our final squad.

17 Tapine or Pakau

So you think basically the same squad as last year except for your # 17 Pakau
Well I only saw the first trial in which we were smashed and the only guys who stood up were clydesdale and a few of the forwards.
It's hard to pick the new guys on that game.
I did like the look of the big, black winger who i think is the guy from the Warriors, and Proudler looks like he has some skills.
Jake Lawrence because of two really good years in SG Ball and because his high workrate would be handy.

I'm sure we will see a bunch of new guys come forward, but i haven't seen anything good from them yet. George Jennings made most of our backs look like they should give up.

I really liked the fullback on the second game that day he was good and communicated with the boys really well. The forwards need to have some mongrel about them but there was a few that I did tackle as good as they ran the ball we need tackling machines out there

Newcastle Knights under 20’s coach Michael Crawley has named an 18-man team ahead of Monday night’s home game against the Wests Tigers.

“Our squad of predominately local boys is very strong and we have chased a bit of size during the pre-season,” Crawley said.

“We have about 20 boys who have stayed from last year’s squad and are going to be better for last year’s experience.

“We have also added a group of 16 players to the squad who have come in as young players who will learn for next season.”

Adam Clydsdale who trained with the first grade side during the pre-season, along with Ben Roose and Pat Mata’utia, will captain the side for the first time on Monday night.

What are the halves like? Where are they from? Must be alright if they are keeping Rouse 18th. Anyone?
I looked them up on the net a few months ago. De saxe was playing SG Ball for Melbourne last year and is originally from Albury. Proudler is originally a pom and played for WA Reds in Ball last year. I've seen youtube of them and Proudler looks pretty good - not sold on De Saxe yet.

Billy what do you think of the team they selected including the boys on the bench do you think we have a strong team?

1. Honeti Tuha - if he's the guy i think he is from the first trial he seems big and confident - scored a really impressive intercept try that few would have gone for - big guy too.
2. Lachlan Shipard - part of our Ball winning squad and big enough to play second row
3. Josh Allison - another giant who can play in the forwards - part of our Ball winning side
4. Pat Mata’utia - also a big, strong guy - the star of the side - part of our ball winning side.
5. Jake Mamo - solid guy - player of the year in ball last year
6. James De Saxe - not sure
7. Eddie Proudler - looks OK, but i'd go for Rouse
8. Jackson Hill - giant guy - I think he could be the next chief - part of our ball winning side
9. Adam Clydsdale (c) - classiest player in the side
10. Curtly Hope-Hodgetts - decent forward from the half a game i saw him play
11. Ben Roose - trained with firstgrade and a real hard worker - an 80 minute goer - part of our ball winning side
12. Joseph Tapine - not sure
13. James Elias - great defender - reminds me of Bedsy the way he is all over bigger guys like a rash - part of our ball winning side

Interchange:

14. Joe Boyce - don't know - new player from queensland
15. Michael Steele - big and reliable and hardworking prop - part of our Ball winning side
16. Jah Pakau - new prop from NZ - not sure
17. Jeremy Ma’a - big impact forward with only 40 minutes in him - part of Ball winning side
18. Tom Rouse - the best player in the Ball comp 2 years ago and star of our Ball winning side - halfback

Looks OK - 9 players from our Ball winning side - 3 Kiwis - a queenslander - a prop from the country, a pom from WA, a kid from the south coast who has been in Melbourne for a few years, and a few guys from last year's ball side.
It's a giant side with huge forwards and some pretty big backs. The halves are small but they seem to have a go in defence - and Clydesdale could be the best player in the comp this year - he was close to the best last year.

Has Rouse been injured? No sight of him in trials... if Proudler was playing for WA they never do well in SG Ball so he cant be near Rouse's skill...

Plenty of SG Ball premier players to that side... hopefully it's the right mix.

Rouse must have been injured to not play a trial - and i'd say he is 18th man because they will use him if he is any chance of getting fit.
