2013 Holden Cup U20s Thread

Great to see big Jeremy Maá starting at prop and making two line breaks and scoring 2 tries. The big unit was great in his second year of Mathews, great in his second year of Ball, and now looks like he will be our big impact guy in his second year of NYC. Pity he only has 40 minutes in him.

The stats are interesting. Tapine again had decent stats, but he was overshadowed by Elias who ran big metres from lock.
I don't know what position Rouse played off the bench, but he ran over 100 metres at around 10 metres a run with no line breaks, so he was getting plenty of room to move if he was in the halves.
Clydesdale again easily topped the tackle count with 35, and the big difference from last year is that he is hitting really hard in defence this year. He looks like he could step up if we need him.

De Saxe looks like the odd man out on the bench. I think we need all those huge forwards to get over the Cowboys pack.
Good to see Rouse back in the starting side.
Cowboys are one of the better sides - should be a close game.
Pat Mataútia should be out for 1 or 2 weeks with a knee injury - he will be missed.

The Cowboys side isn't all that good and is a small side especially out on the flanks, I was at the first game and the team was dwarfed compared to the dogs side across the field. Take Grevsmuhl and Pat Kaufusi out of the pack and it is full of either young forwards who look like they will be good in a year or so or full of guys who are crap. Their backline seem to lack ideas and creatitvity with only Santo providing any spark from the back. I honestly don't know how they beat a Storm U20's. They are a very young side, i'd bet on them being one of the youngest in the comp.

In saying all this I hope the young ones can make it 2 in a row to boost the confidence and there are a couple new names on the bench who are yet to play NYC. One in particular is a monster of a human going by his stats on his page. The Cowboys pack do need his size.

Stands at 192cms and weighs 125kgs, will add much needed size to this small pack.

Well i'd like to say the Knights will be a strong contender this year, but I saw Penrith take them to pieces in the last trial, so i think we need to improve a lot to be top 4.

On the plus side, all but 1 of the starting pack is the pack that took us to an under 18s title, and the missing guy, big Rob Mason, will probably force his way in by the end of the season if his form for Maitland is anything to go by.

Our gun half, Rouse, was injured for the first game and came off the bench for the second, and I think he adds a lot to the side.

The backline is a bit dodgy - Pat Mataútia is our best, and he is injured now. The new fullback looks like a quality attacking player, but he has a few mistakes in him, and the other guys like Shipard and Allison are big second rowers pretending to be backs.

The second row has three guys with massive workrates, but they are all under 100kg.

I think Penrith will be the ones to beat his year, they have a gun U20's line up and barring injuries I can't see too many sides beating them.

I wasn't a fan of Garth Brennan at the Knights. I thought the harsh discipline of the former police prosecutor did more harm than good, but he seems to be a good fit at Penrith. He has a very large pool of talented juniors, and he is only picking the guys with self discipline, which means he has a great squad.
In the trial against the Knights both teams used two squads, and i thought the second squad for Penrith was better than our firsts. He has a massive pool of talent.

No Clydesdale or Pat Mataútia is bad news.
I suppose there is a small chance Clydesdale has been called up to cover for injuries in firstgrade and could be a late inclusion, but it's more likely he is injured.

The odd thing about this side is that 14 of the 18 could and have played in the forwards. The entire 3/4 line are 100kg second rowers.
Good to see Rob Mason in the mix. He has a lot of mongrel in him.

Only saw the second half and tbh I didn't see much potential in any of your outside backs, the forwards seem to get a decent roll on but the Cowboys pack is fairly small and inexperienced or just crap especially with the late withdrawal of Grevsmuhl. Good to see Kelvin Lowe givin a shot, he has alot of ability.
