EELS RE-SIGN EMERGING YOUNG TALENT
The Pirtek Parramatta Eels have secured the services of three young talented backrowers in New Zealander Weller Hauraki and Toyota Cup players Tim Robinson and David Baumann.
Weller Hauraki who made his NRL debut in 2007 has played in eleven NRL matches so far in season 2008.
Weller, who turned 23 earlier this year, is a strong running backrower who has been at the Parramatta Club since 2003 and starred in the 2007 NSWRL Premier League Grand Final scoring the winning try on full-time.
“I always wanted to stay at Parramatta and I’m very happy to have my future for the next two seasons sorted out.” Hauraki said
“The team is starting to find some good from and I’m enjoying my football.”
“The Club has been good to me and I’m looking forward to being part of successful Parramatta teams in the years ahead.”
The Parramatta Eels beat several Clubs in the race to sign young Toyota Cup players Tim Robinson and David Baumann. Whilst Tim and David are yet to play NRL both backrowers who turned 20 this year are talented, hard working forwards and are the latest players who are emerging from the successful Parramatta development program.
Michael Hagan said the re-signing of Hauraki, Robinson and Bauman was important for the club.
“Weller continues to improve and will get better over the next few seasons. Weller has a good opportunity ahead of him and I’m looking forward to him forming a strong backrow partnership with some of our senior players.”
“The retention of both Tim and David is very pleasing and both boys will push for First Grade spots in the future.”

AAPAussie Bell signs with Catalans
From correspondents in Paris, France
June 17, 2008
THE Catalans Dragons, sitting third in the English Super League, have signed Manly centre Steven Bell for two years.
Bell, 31, has scored 87 tries in 158 games.
Dragons captain Casey McGuire has agreed to a new two-year contract which will keep him with the Perpignan club until the end of 2010 season.
The former Brisbane Broncos stand-off is in his second year in Super League with the French club.
"Casey had a couple of injuries the last two years but he is now 100 per cent fit and his versatility will prove to be beneficial for the Dragons in the next two years," Dragons general manager Christophe Levy said.
MELBOURNE bolstered their depth for the next two seasons by securing Canberra hooker Ryan Hinchcliffe and retaining rising prop Aidan Tolman until the end of 2010.
Hinchcliffe, 23, agreed to join the Storm and become captain Cameron Smith's understudy, although he is also hopeful of being considered in the back row.
Tolman, 19, has played three NRL games since making his debut in round six and resisted offers from several other clubs to commit his future to the Storm.
Storm coach Craig Bellamy said Hinchcliffe had a great opportunity to push for a spot in Melbourne's top side given his forward utility value.
"He's a tough kid who has pretty good skills around the ruck," said Bellamy.
"Cam is obviously our captain and hooker, but there's definitely a spot in the 17 with his ability to fill in at hooker and play in the backrow.
"With Matt Geyer retiring, we see Ryan possibly playing the role Matt has this year, and Nathan Friend and James Aubusson have played for us over the past couple of years."
Bellamy said Tolman was a significant signing for Melbourne's future.
"Aiden has come through our developmental system and has played extremely well this year, forcing his way into NRL calculations most weeks," said Bellamy.
"He's definitely a Melbourne Storm type of player.
"He works hard and does all of the little things that are so important in the way we play here."

Logan Swann and Wairangi Koopu will join veteran Ruben Wiki in leaving the Warriors at the end of the NRL season, while utility Aidan Kirk has signed again for the club.
Wiki, who has had 16 years in the NRL, signalled early this year this season would be his last.
Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah said Swann, 33, and Koopu, 28, were also going.
Swann & Koopu to leave Warriors
Kirk, 22, has impressed in recent Warriors' matches and has been signed up for next year with an option for 2010.
A golf club greenkeeper has signed a one-year deal with the NRL's green machine.
Glen Buttriss was not even expected to play first grade this year but a series of season-ending injuries at the Canberra Raiders opened the way for the utility back.
"He has really proven himself, he basically forced us to sign him," Raiders chief executive Don Furner said.
Buttriss, 22, who only weeks ago was playing for the Raiders' Brisbane based feeder-club Souths Logan and working as a greenkeeper, said the last month had been a whirlwind for him.
"It's been very quick, I'm starting to find my feet now," he said.
"Playing back with Souths Logan, I really started enjoying (playing) again. It made me hungrier."
On the back of injuries to key Raiders players Lincoln Withers and Ryan Hinchcliffe, Buttriss has seen a one-week stay turn in to a contract for next season.
"I guess the injuries we've had have been good for me," he said.
Buttriss was only seeing positives, despite the short length of the contract.
"I'll see what happens, It depends on how many games I play (next season)."
Furner agreed: "It's better for us and for him", he said, adding that Hinchcliffe's decision to sign with the Melbourne Storm on Tuesday had moved the signing process along.
Buttriss, who will leave a job in Queensland, said he was looking forward to the rest of the season.
"I'm keen to stay. I'll be moving my stuff down here next week and hopefully have a good finish (to this season)."
