Toohey's News

I know it’s slightly off topic, but heard Matty Johns make a comment this week that he and Joey had a meeting with Ponga about signing with Newcastle, and apparently were influential in his decision.

To the point, Matty called Ponga on occasion to apologise for coercing him, when things weren’t very good.

Alleged Ponga was always very positive about the signing.

It's a fair sell, and it wouldn't surprise me if there were other examples

As Matty would start with 'brother' would you rather captain the Knights to their first GF in over 20 years or do it easy with the Roosters and be in with a chance every year with a stacked roster but not be remembered as much of a club legend?

Being a head coach is really hard. Some seem to be overly harsh disciplinarians who can only get respect from their players temporarily and they burn them out. Some seem to create an overly lax, unprofessional environment. Some seem to grind all the creativity and joy out of their players and some seem totally unable to instil any grit & steel. Some head coaches don’t do a good enough job of making it clear to every player that they value them and some are too concerned with being liked to help players get better.

Nathan Brown seemed capable of failing in all of these ways at the same time.

He should stay retired. The poor man has been so polite and patient with many posters on X who clearly are just asking him questions for clout. A great man is Baz but it is time to leave him be to enjoy the rest of his hopefully healthy and happy life.

Surely there is a young journalist locally with a clue about how to make contacts and build bridges and get the club to open up to him about recruitment. You know. Pick up a phone, actually talk to another human.

I am 44 this year, amazing how the older you get the younger that young becomes.

I think I was late 20's when a 18 year old said to me you remember what it was like to be young, I didn't know wether to laugh or cry.

I’d feel very targeted by this but for the fact that I’m almost 40. So technically not young!
I’m 45 and haven’t been answering my phone or making calls for about 25 years haha. Text and email all the way.

Nothing worse than the people at work who just teams call you without warning … then spend 20 minute blabbering on about something that could have been a 30 second email!

He's retired from active journalism
I reckon he'll spend 2 hours a week for an easy payday while ever the club keeps feeding him "scoops" and the Herald wants to pay him.

Coming from a 67 year old , the older you get the quicker the years go . 44 is young to me 😀. But as I say to a lot of my mates . At least we are still here !

And by the same token, those people who just send the message “hi” on Teams and wait for you to reply before asking their question. 😡

Get caught out, morning walks daily, chat with some, just a G’Day or good morning, get home tell the wife things like chatted with an old fellow this morning, her question is usually how old is this old fellow, my usual answer is something like med 60 to early 70’s and her response is usually “ your 79 how can they be old fellow” my response is they seem and look old but me I don’t feel it. People of retirement age, pensioners just seem old and to me look old, I try to not look in the mirror
