I don't think fans like accepting defeat before a ball is kicked off, but I believe they were saying the second year he was there they were projected to be something like $600-700k over the cap? Don't know how they happens. But also (and I'm pretty sure it was mentioned here) Mooney was saying the overinflated contracts too, players on money they shouldn't have been on. Then you're forced to get rid of a few guys.

Guys who are moving on having the sh!!!ts, downfall in moral due to mates being moved on.

Brown was under no illusions that he was not there to win footy matches.

I don't think it's the worst thing that Justin has arrived exactly as we have the FO sorted out with a roster stacked with talent for him to inherit.

I guarantee he was doing a great job with what he had available at the Titans but coaches can't work miracles with bums.

Everything has worked out perfectly with the roster and the development of our juniors.
To think we could be in the second year of jonah pezets 4 year deal 🤮

What's a CEO's role these days? What was their role 10-20 years ago?

Knights were turning a profit ever since Wests took over except for maybe breaking even in the first year due to Brownie's payout. Or maybe he's been skimping out on expenses (necessary or unecessary)

By that definition he's done a good job. Results wise from missed finals to making finals he's also done a good job.

Maybe missing on extending AOB that led to the spoon last year. But then hitting on Parr and POS

We really can't complain. We had CEO's that ran the books and were constantly millions in the red.

He's not really heaping praise on him, and certainly not comparing him to Holbrook in any way. Just says he was the one who gave debuts to McEwen, Hopwood and Cant, as well as a few other decisions that have paid off.

Those players would likely debut under any coach and may increase in ability under a better coach as is currently happening along with others that have been suppressed by style and needs of previous coach

Your forgetting Nathan Brown's context, Bennett left us a flaming wreck after the tinkler era, our cap was hilariously bad overpaying people like the Sims is my favourite example.

He basically had to torch us with Mooney and rebuild using never was's and young kids. (Josh Starling and Brock Lamb as examples.).

He even said early on he would never be there to see the success and when O'Brien came in he was given a competitive roster.

No not forgetting the context at all. It was a bad situation no doubt, but there's no excuse for walking in and saying right from the start you'll be getting the wooden spoon.

No excuse for winning only one game in a salary cap comp, not even the Tigers have been that bad

He still had the likes of Mullen, Rochow, Smith, Gags, Sione, Aku, Hodkinson - most of which had been to a prelim a few years earlier with Wayne.

There was a bunch of games they only lost by a few points they possibly could've won but how much belief do you think a team had in themselves when the coach walked in and said they'd be last, just to save his own ***. Even if he thought it, you don't say it out loud.

Regardless of how inexperienced Holbrook might've been at the time, I'm sure he would've at least tried to instil some belief in them, young as some of them were.

Everything’s worked out but I think 2016-17 were bad years made even worse by a really bad coach, whose only real skill appears to be his ability to convince people he’s not

I’m actually feeling reasonably positive around our cap 🧢 position now. Sounds like the cap is pretty much doubling in 28 which makes brown, ponga, young and Lucas’ contracts look better. Even niukore actually.

Couldn’t disagree with this assessment more, he was brought into fix a broken club or we’d still be in shambles like the tigers and he just had the balls to say it outloud.

I agree mate. You only need to look how many young bloke Brown gave debuts too. It was a genuine rebuild. He definitely left the place with a heap better roster then when he started here.

Because the recruitment guy Darren Mooney did his job, yet somehow people want to credit Nathan Brown. It was Mooney’s idea to go hard after Ponga and give an offer he couldn’t refuse. Nathan Brown didn’t even know who KP was.

He threw a bunch of kids to the wolves, collected two wooden spoons, made the club a laughing stock, and was forced into “quitting” when the playing group essentially refused to play for him. Yeah very impressive tenure that
