Weak mentality my ***, guess what 50% of rugby league is? Hmmm maybe defence?

If you can’t defend you don’t get picked it’s that ****ing easy, doesn’t matter if you can set up 5 tries if you let 6 in.

A halfbacks job is to steer the team around yes but by association if you are a rugby league player you also have the job to defend.
 
Ok we will have to disagree here mate, you stick them beside your best defending 2nd rower and tell them to look after them.

So many of the best half's over the years where speed bumps.


If your half is a really good defender but poor at attacking how do you score?

Look at the knights points for this year and then tell me you still think you pick your half based on defence

In the first half, Jackson's willingness to take on the line seemed refreshing and was hopefully setting up to draw defenders before a quick shift, but by the second half it was "pass the ball FFS!".

Yeah but it’s not just the amount missed, it’s where and when. I don’t recall any clangers from Cogger in the last match. Overall I think he does the job in defence and has actually improved that area of his game quite a bit.

But our defence is great already, so as @what's that pong says, why would we select a half to shore up defence further? Our issue is we can’t score points … Hastings provided zilch on that front last week. In fact with the amount of ball we had in the Roosters’ 20, our attack was even worse than usual. A lot of that was down to Hastings, imo.

You’re making it sound like the debate is Hastings’ defence versus Coggers’ attack which it clearly isn’t.

Hastings has it over him on both fronts but clearly he (or his Mrs, allegedly) is like Marmite and has rubbed team mates up the wrong way.

We’ll have to disagree, I think Hastings has been shocking the games I’ve seen him play the last two years. Sadly his body is just done with the ankle issues he’s had.

I would just like to clarify though, I’m not saying Cogger is some sort of attacking genius. 😂
 
Last week was our best performance of the year, given how young and inexperienced our squad was.

All I can put it down to is that we had 2 genuine halves doing genuine halves things - no fullback getting in everyones way - no rookie half playing like a fullback - just 2 experienced halves running a bunch of kids around.

Yeah, Hastings is clearly not the player he was during the 2023 run (sadly) and Cogger is definitely not some sort of attacking genius! 😜👍

I have never heard the expression is like Marmite, I don’t know what it means.

Marmite is difficult to find in Australia, us Aussies eat Vegemite instead.

Yeah, I know from my time living over there Vegemite is pretty much a staple food. Marmite is either loved or hated over here, hence the phrase - it polarises opinion, just like Mr Hastings seems to do!
 
I think Vegemite is so much better than Marmite. But not every Aussie likes it, my Mum strongly disliked it.
