The only reason Ponga would go to the Roosters would be because he wants to revive the 257 Collective podcast with Connor.

They aren’t the 2018/19 Roosters anymore. If he wants a comp, go to Melbourne/Penrith/Dogs/Raiders, otherwise why waste your time. They might be better, but not a premiership threat.

I think Ponga has kind of boxed himself in a bit this year.

Think this season has almost killed any chances of a 1.5M salary anywhere else but here or another spoon favourite.
I suspect we would be the club offering him the most this time around.

For those premiership contenders - he might be a great luxury - he has potential to be good at the Dogs and an upgrade on Tracey. But unless he takes a pretty substantial pay cut, I don’t think any of the contenders are looking at him and paying him more than their already established spine players.

Fullbacks are the flavour of the generation. Most kids coming through would be trying to emulate the likes of Slater, Tedesco, Turbo, Paps and Ponga.
Whereas l think Reynolds, DCE, Fogarty, Cleary would’ve seen Joey carving up as inspiration.
I guess I’m getting at, there’s plenty of young kids coming through that could do the basic job of fullback with some flair.

I agree. I also hear a lot of the journos saying that Ponga to the Roosters just “makes sense” but I actually think he’d be an awful fit there.

Ponga by all reports is an extremely dedicated trainer, and he takes his game preparation very seriously, but he’s still a very laid back dude. I have a mate who was a junior at the Roosters about 10 years ago (progressed to the point of training with first grade a bit but never went further) and apparently within their 4 walls they’re very intense in terms of demanding success. If players aren’t performing how they’re expected to perform form wise everyone within the club is very critical, even other senior players, saying you need to get it together or you’ll be out as they need to maintain the Roosters way. Now that’s not a bad thing obviously and a mentality we could do with more of at the Knights, but I couldn’t see Ponga working out in an environment like that. It fits with other blokes who are a bit different or a bit more laid back like Cheese or Dom being shown the door. Knowing what I’ve been told I find Robbo’s public support of Dom Young laughable because I very much doubt that’s what has been said to him privately. His confidence has clearly been crushed there to the point where he can’t even make a defensive decision, he just watches stunned a lot of the time.

I’m coming around to letting Ponga go, no extension of contract, we have ready replacement in Sharpe along with others.
Replace him with a good strong Prop and a quality 7, play Brown at his preferred 6 and with a few promising young players coming through we will be strong.
Ponga needs a few good strong games to change my mind.
