most teams would be clambering all over themselves to get him, but we definitely will have to pay some of his remaining contract. They won’t pay full freight, that’s for sure

I’d say you’d definitely get offers of $1 mil to take him, so if he’s on $1.4, then we’d have to cough up $400,000 per year

I'm sure there'd be plenty keen if they could make space
 
It would only make sense though if we had players lined up to fill the holes in the roster with Ponga’s money, if we went down the road of releasing Ponga.

There is also the possibility of a player/players trade

I think that’s what people want, I’d be trying hard to unsettle Woods, if we can bag him we can trade Ponga for a prop and even fork $400k in if we can get the two immediately and the team starts looking much more complete

I think we are really beating a dead dog with all this talk about Ponga going, swapped or traded. There is no way this is going to happen before the end of his current contract, or even longer.
Has anyone heard him say he wants to leave or get out of his contract early?
Have we heard anything from his father or family?
Until any of us do, we are just speculating.
If the coaches, players and administrators can’t get the best out of our best player, we are doomed for the next couple of decades as a team on a highway to nowhere.
If he is injured, rest him, but let’s not flog our best player through the exit lounge.
 
Tend to think we have Ponga for rest of his contract keeping in mind we are not obliged to extend or make any offer, in fact it would be in his best interest as well as the club if we advised him so should that be Knights preference.
From Knights point of view if he wishes to leave we should let him go but if we are paying any substantial amount then sorry please fulfill your contract.
No pushing, no shoving, no controversy, happy player, happy club
 
Even Andre knows as a manager it's his job to use the media to build FOMO and pump up that next contract.

That said it would be interesting to see what KP/Andre and the Knights would do if KP was offered $2m to switch to union.

You'd think he'd go to Union surely? Thought he already had something in his contract for Union, so Im kinda expecting that to play out at some stage.
 
Reported today’s telegraph p99 Ponga could be interested in Bears, Port Hedland born and Union also enquiries from England and France.

He’s going back to WA because he was born there, even-though his family lives here in Newcastle?

If he goes to Perth it would most likely be because they gave him an offer he couldn’t refuse. Still seems unlikely. He’s most likely going to want a chance at winning a comp which will be unlikely with a new team.

I think people really over blow the Rugby interest. I know his dad likes to play up the constant threat but that’s his job as his manager. It’s all mostly come from journalists asking if he’d be interested in playing for the All Blacks if he went to Rugby. What’s he going to say, no?

Completely agree on this point. English rugby doesn’t have a pot to **** in. There’s no way a club is going to match or exceed an NRL offer.
