Toohey's News

Thomas Jenkins called into blues camp, obviously not to play or be on reserves list but they see a future in him.
He is playing out of his skin back at Penrith again, shame we couldn’t extract that talent,
Coaching, culture not sure but a lot of players blossom after leaving the club.
He’s there to do opposed sessions because Penrith have a bye week, this is standard operating procedure. Kiraz is the guy who’ll actually play if To’o is ruled out.

It's still an honour for the bloke. There are many other teams with byes this week with many other players who haven't been brought into origin camp.

So a development deal for 2025 and 2026 and top 30 for 2027. I'm guessing the clause means he gets promoted to top 30 if he's essentially playing first grade anyway. So locked up. Great news.

Fitzgibbon lol? Was pretty rubbish for his first few years with us.
I remember mentioning it at the time probably during one of the spoon years (2017) I was at one of the games and he was coming off for a breather and he looked absolutely gassed. Apparently he was only training part time then and by the time he was training full time he looked much more like a first grader (but not as much of a stand out one who wasn't expendable).
I think the club did rubbish the claims he was only getting looks back then because of his old man and NIB but I'm not surprised hes probably one that does better in the Super League.

Personally reckon he was absolutely massive for us in 2023 - his hit and spin and offload to Ponga created so many chances. A real shame in my opinion that he headed off to Superleague. Would have been a better and cheaper signing than KPP has turned out to be.

Yep but thought he was on something ridiculous as well lol. For $600k it would be okay, POS would probably think it's overs depending on market demand lol.

19/6

Gagai says he'll re-locate if he gets a good offer, but his preference would be to stay.

Hetherington will play on in pain to try to earn a new contract somewhere. He has little hope of getting a Knights contract. Doctors have ruled out further surgery.

ESL is signed for 2026 and will get an extention for 2027.

Paul Bryan has rejected our 2 year offer and is looking for another club.

Jake Crouch has signed a 3 year deal from 2026 - no mention of him getting an early release.

So Hetherington and Bryan out and ESL and Crouch in for middle forwards next year.

Hm, that's disappointing about Bryan. Would have liked to have had him part of the young brigade coming through, we've stuck by him for all the injuries, shame.

Great news about Elijah and Crouch though, it's absolutely time to bring the juniors through as the back ups and not sign players who float everywhere for a cool 500k. Looks to be where Sully is going with retention.

Feel for Hethro, he's really been through it and should have had a better career for his ability.

Gags is interesting, he's still one of our better players but it'd be only one more yr we'd have him. Hope he stays to finish career here though and then becomes a mentor/coach

Everyone could see his shoulder was busted after his first tackle. The flip side of the “toughness” that he showed is that Knights at minimum were negligent in continuing to play him with what was ultimately a season ending injury while he’s off-contract, at worst potentially encouraged/pressured him to keep playing.

Wouldn’t be shocked at all if his management are filthy with the club. Going to go out on a limb and say it’s not because they’re expecting to get substantially bigger offers elsewhere.

I remember after the game it was reported he refused to come off hence everyone saying how tough he was. Someone should have forced him off anyway but saying he was encouraged or pressured to stay on the field while he wanted to come off is a pretty big accusation. He was receiving medical care throughout and the medical staff know way more than us.

It was probably a very small offer.
POS seems to be very stingy with everyone except top line players.

Bryan is the aldi version of Mat Croker anyway. He might make a steady firstgrader if he can ever have a good run with injuries, but he doesn't have the potential of ESL, McEwen, Manuleleua, Crouch, Hopwood or Hilliar, and I don't think any of those guys have serious injury concerns like Bryan.

Yep. If Bryan managed to reach a Matt Croker or Brodie Jones level I’d consider that he had truely excelled as much as he could. Definitely not the type of player you offer anything other than the basic minimum to. If he can get more than that elsewhere then good on him.

The Toohey article goes through Crouch's record - Mats title with us, NSW under 16's, SG Ball player of the year for Cronulla in his first year for them, 2 good years in Flegg including starting prop in Cronulla's 2024 grandfinal appearance, which they lost by 2 points to a loaded Canterbury side.
