He was speaking about it in relation to the possibility of Dom going to another club (not us or the Roosters) for the rest of this year and then a 2 year contract with us. It makes sense to me that we’d say no way to that. We need to get Dom back working with our system asap if we’re going to sign him. He’s obviously struggling and going to another club/system for 6 months and then back to us again really wouldn’t be the best thing for him or us.

I'd be careful assuming this is a fait accompli. Now DAZN own foxsports the next TV deal might be a bit of a shock for the NRL.

Foxtel is a worthless asset if they lose the NRL rights. Fox has already lost heaps of content to streaming apps like Max. Sport is all they have now.

They'll be competing against the streaming giants and channel 7/9 as well. Will need to pay a pretty penny.

I think there’s been a bit of a global trend downwards in sports broadcasting rights deals though. Advertising doesn’t bring in anywhere near as much money as it used to for linear broadcasting. So it is possible it will drop. It’s happened for NZ rugby in their latest deal.
 
The most recent NBA rights deal was like they found an infinite money cheat, and the Premier League rights keep getting more valuable. Maybe the general trend is down, but if you’re the top dog in particular tv market(s), you go against that trend?
 
Gee no wonder he wants to leave. He ditches us for below his market rate on the promise of being a key attacking weapon for them in a contending team & then he spends week after week watching guys inside him not pass him the ball or kick to him.

Yeah I know he still scored heaps of tries but I feel like the majority were just catch and fall jobs, rather than attacking movements geared towards him… whole games would go by where they’d score 8-10 tries and he’d touch the ball like two times total when they were on the attack.

So is that $200K per season for this + the next two years, or $200K this year then we sign him to a different two year deal after that?
 
So really all this is more about DCE and less about Dom? I'm not saying he hasn't had his defensive issues, but it sounds more like the roosters can't quite get DCE over the line and have started picking on the bloke they deem expendable. With the roosters kicking in this is like a no brainer for me, but we'd want to move fast.
 
The article is Bulldog Ritchie again so most of the same stuff he said on 360 last night but the wording sounds much more certain. Says he's expected to sign a 2-year deal with the Knights and be available for selection by next week but also still says Knights will walk away from negotiations if it's not an immediate signing.

They had so much money come off the cap at the end of 2024 yet they need to push blokes out the door to come up with $1 million for DCE?

No chance they were over the cap in 23/24 but have been doing some creative accounting, right?
 
For 200k, every recruitment guy in the NRL is currently looking at their cap and sharpening their pencils to make a bid.
We won't get him for 200k.
 
It would happen if the Roosters will only allow a closed negotiation. They think they can win the comp next year (I know we don't, but they always do) if they get DCE & probably don't see us as a threat. They let other clubs talk to him and run the risk of, for example, having to beat this Bulldogs team but with a right edge of Stephen Crichton and Dom Young to get there. Or perhaps Dom added to the Storm backline.

Or maybe for PR reasons, they only let Dom go "where he was happier".

Or maybe there is some reason they think they need to move him now - it wasn't clear to us why there would be one, but if he's allowed to go immediately, there must be - and this is the deal they can do ASAP with a club which doesn't have to move the deckchairs to sort it out for them.

Clubs do weird things for all sorts of reasons & it isn't always totally rational.
