Recruitment And Retention Discussion

Okay in my defence, there was a lot of rubbish in his game that he’s finally gotten out of it. Sorry for having issues with a cheap shot merchant but I don’t take my criticisms of him at the time back.
If you want to make an omelette, you have to break some eggs.

I think a lot of people underestimated his loss to this team.

As someone else said, he should never have been used as a second rower. I think if he’d been played exclusively at prop in his final couple of years here, we’d have seen his value a bit more.

His value was clearly there though. I saw multiple huddles of the forwards and it was Barney laying the law down. He was clearly the forward leader at the club, and the way the others (looking at you DSaf) fell away once he left was telling.

I get they were worried about his neck, so I don't blame the club.

The fact clubs are keen on guys like Brodie Croft and Hastings tells you everything you need to know about the lack of halves in the nrl. Hastings will get another nrl club

We finished 14th in his last season in the club and 5th the season after he left.

I don’t disagree that he’s been fantastic for the Warriors, but Knights Adam Elliott has been a better player & better leader than Knights Barnett. Adam is a better ball playing lock and has been more keen to do the dirty work of cleaning up around the ruck than Mitch was with us. Both very important to our better play on both sides of the ball in 2023 & ‘24 than what we dished up 2020-22.

It would be great to have him back now & he’d do heaps for us as a genuine Kangaroos calibre prop who’s comfortably a better player than Leo right now, but for whatever reason he simply wasn’t giving us that level of play.

Each to their own.

There is no way he stays beyond his current deal
Jackson will not play first grade this year and will leave at the end of the year, we were clearly nudging him playing at lock which was the reason he left the tigers in the first place.

Best for the club, don’t really care what’s best for for him it isn’t personal but his $600-$800k can be better spent elsewhere. I wouldn’t even want him here on $300k, he is clearly poison anywhere he goes, how many clubs now?

If there was such a thing as a specialist number 18 Riley would be perfect. He could fill in nearly anywhere.
He has been tried everywhere and looks good, but just not good enough to be starting first choice anywhere.
He is a bigger, better Kurt Mann.
I was often pretty critical of him, but you're doing Kurt Mann a massive disservice there.

He's likely going to finish his career with more than 250 first grade caps. Young Jones would be extremely lucky to have a career like that.

I thought the narrative was that Jackson had got his head (and his meds) right, was over his ankle injury had made peace with his teammates and was keen to earn his way back.

At his best, he's the best 7 currently on our list and may be our best option until we can develop or buy our next franchise number 7. IDK if he can or will get back to his best but I hope so for the good of the club.

Glad his got his head right but the playing group has clearly had enough of him, hopefully whatever her does next he stays in a good head space, his over the top high intensity personality does my head in and that’s on socials imagine dealing with him for 40 hours a week like that.

Whether this is Jackson's last season at the club or he earns an unlikely extension I hope he has worked through his issues with the team. $700k or so of our cap having a strong season in the NRL is obviously better for the Knights than waiting out his contract expiry in the reggies.
