Toohey's News

There is a page of League/Knights news in the Herald where the Toohey News usually appears.
It has no byline listed (no author).
The two stories are that Leo Thompson becomes the 7th Knight with a current contract to play for NZ behind players like Sam Stewart, Tony Kemp, Zeb Taia, Junior Sau, James Goulding, Danny Levi.
Discarded Knight Jacob Kiraz has signed a long term deal at Canterbury.
Frizzel and Young were also mentioned as playing for Tonga and England.

Add the late Adrian Shelford to that list of Kiwi Knights players.

Herman Ese’ese played for the Kiwis while with us, as well. In that same Denver test Griffin played in.

Toohey should write a history of the Knights.
He pretty much has all the material and research done.
If he wanted to run out a quick one to earn a few bob he could just about cut and paste all his old material together and knock it out in a week and it would still be worth reading.
If he wanted to spend a year on it, he could knock out the best club history ever. He has basically been there and writing notes as it all happened for the last 35 years.

The League page in the Herald today has an article speculating that we'd have to swap a top 30 player to get the Fox, most likely JSaf.

Side articles include one about Kurt Donohoe talking about what Fiji need to do to beat PNG (spread the ball to the wings) and one that quotes Shanice Parker saying NZ are keen to break a 7 year losing streak v Aus. Another article is about Val Holmes and Mal Meninga.

The main article is by Max McKinney (Fox article) - the side articles have authors I haven't heard of or are not credited to anyone.

JSaf for the Fox? All the steps forward we’ve taken just to be swept so far backwards with the stroke of a pen. I hope not.
The day Addo-Carr pulls a red and blue jersey on is the day I stop watching NRL

Won't happen cause we literally can't let go of anyone with out severely weakening the team. Lose Jsaf and weaken an already borderline forward depth. Fox would be a cult hero here for sure and probably be a dally M winger, but i agree with not spending over for wingers, as much as we'll miss Dom's go forward, our expansive attack will be executed by any decent winger. I have full faith in Enari and Jenkins with potential for Pryce being a darkhorse if he's happy to play wing.

Just quickly on team and doing better than last yr. If we can put together the final 9 games and do that consistently for season and have likes of Elliot, Hetherington fully fit then we are definitely pushing top 4. Hetherington could have a breakout yr for himself in 24, mentally he's worked hard and ability wise was showing the starting point of his potential. Truly couldn't be more excited for next yr.

Hopefully early Nov we get relatively quick announcements of AOB resigning extra 2 yrs, Best resigning, Jsaf resigning and Jenkins announcement. Pre season starts (even though social media of players show likes of KP, Lucas, Best Crossy and Brailey starting there own training session through Airlocker or home gyms.)

My hype level is off the charts!!

Until he scores 20+ tries for the season. Weird reason to stop watching NRL altogether though. Fox is a good player and would kill it here. It won't happen though.
Not that weird, the only NRL games I try to make time time for are Knights games.
It wouldn’t sway if he scored 40, I despise the guy and couldn’t cop seeing him in Knights colours.

If we could make it through the days of Boyd and Sims, we could make it through Fox days.

Fox is just a cocky little guy who gives back as good as he gets.
He had a go at dominating Ponga and got his pants pulled down, but as a senior player in a dud team, that was his job, especially when his forwards didn't seem keen to do it.
I don't have a issue with him, in fact, his brand of cocky aggression is what seems to have got us into winning shape in the form of Gamble, Hastings and Elliott, so a bit more couldn't hurt.
I don't think we'll get him, but I also didn't think we'd get Klemmer, Pearce or Frizz as current rep players.

Yeah seams to create more headlines off the field then on of late . We don't need that!

To be fair to McKinny in that article, he brought up the names of half our top 30 squad as possible swaps, but settled on JSaf as the guy Canterbury would need and would free up enough cap space for us. He even mentioned guys like Mapapalangi and Brailey to mention a few.
