Sheens has said that Brooks will be the halfback and Douehi will be the 6. Where does that leave Hastings? At lock.

Hastings said he wants to play halfback in the NRL. I heard him say on the radio “you are more likely to get injured at lock” that tells me he doesn’t want to play there full time.

Hastings will be in Newcastle for pre-season training if our recruitment team has half a brain…

I agree with this assessment of Hastings. He is a far superior player than Brooks, and for much less money. Hastings presents more options with ball in hand in attack. He is probably the best option available to the Knoughts if they can get him here in 2023.

Another thing is that The Tigers have reportedly signed Bateman who is a lock, even if the feud between Bateman and Hastings can be resolved, Hastings would have to move to the bench. I don’t think he would be happy with that.

It's better than what we have. But if we sign Nui, I hope Hodson outperforms him and takes his spot before the end of the year.

We can only wait and hope.

After the Brooks fiasco 2 years running, we can only believe it when there is an official announcement that he has signed.

Yeah I will believe it 1 second after he signs but it would be nice to think he wants to come here.

It’s definitely a bit of a worry that he could be onto his 6th club in 9 seasons, despite being the best performing player at the last three clubs he’s been at. Wests were so bad last year and only looked competent with him on the field, yet they’re allegedly happy to see the back of him.

Two explanations: 1. They don’t understand the difference he made to them (plausible, they’re a very stupid club) or they think Bateman at lock provides similar value, or; 2. They know exactly what they’re giving up and they’d still rather not have to put up with the bloke.

The on field fit for us is of course a no brainer, but you worry about off-field drama detailing the season. But the paddock gate has been open for years on the off-field drama front and all the sheep have already escaped, probably doesn’t make any difference whether or not you close the gate now.

Hastings was also the only Tigers player to post something about Madge getting sacked. It was nothing wrong, he was just showing respect to Madge.

I could see that. Sheenius has always favoured nippy, elusive halves, which is what Brooks is in theory, and Jacko is definitely not that.

Sheens has made a lot of comments about how he brought Brooks to the club as a kid and regrets never getting to coach him and all coaches have big egos, I bet he thinks Brooks' career goes very differently under him.

I think he has always been a rogue that needs to lead the ship.
At roosters and manly he could never be that with the Hargreaves and dce's they had.
We currently have NO leadership. Personally I think he is a must, doesn't ever seem to have a bad game, just been part of a bad team at the tigers.
If he came, I would hope that AOB gives him the keys to the Lamborghini and runs all of our attack. He did awesome things for the devil's in the super league with responsibility and we really need that.
