Mitch Barnett discussion

I initially thought this was a bad April fools joke, Brown probably has a soft spot for him.
I wouldve liked him to come back after his suspension and show his team and the fans what being a knight means to him but oh well see what happens.

Throwing 800k p.a. at Nanai would blow the Cowboys out of the water💧

Would be worth it for us, too.
I’d love him here but that is far too much at this stage for mine. He could be a Ponga and worth the early gamble, but it’s a lot of money for that risk. If we wanted to outbid every other club, I’m not sure we’d need to go that high in any case. Maybe $700k? I’m guessing though.

I totally agree 800k would make him the 20th equal highest player(or close to that number) in the comp. Same as what we’re paying for David klemmer which would rub a few first graders the wrong way.
He is no doubt a talent but I think we could get a seasoned first grader for less than that.

Dunno, I'm over worrying about it. If Munster goes there maybe it makes Ponga more likely to go there.

Dont't know, don't care. He will stay or go.

We will deal with it either way.

Barnett though, not fussed if he goes. I like how he plays (except against Penrith) but no doubt we can replace him for cheaper.

That's how teams stuff up their salary cap for years. It would be crazy to gamble on a rookie spine player for that, let alone a forward. 500k-600k range maybe if they're supremely confident about him, but anything over that is stupidity.

Think Barnett’s best position is middle forward rather than 2nd row and we seem stronger in that area with Klem, Safs, Mann, Thompson and Croker. If letting him go means we can get a better 2nd rower than we will be better off.
Exactly

Barney has been great, but he’s not the complete package. Has served us well when we needed that type of player. I see more calculated aggression and style in Leo.

I think Barry reported that Zammit is over in England looking at Kai Pearce-Paul, a rangy 6’5”ish back rower and centre. Along with Pryce he’s one of the 4 or 5 players people have floated as guys who might successfully make the jump to the NRL.

I’m doubling down on my “Crichton = really good” take by saying that’s the calibre of established rep star I’d expect to be getting if we were gonna drop $800K on a back rower. I have NFI why he comes off the bench for the Roosters atm, maybe they’re thinking he’s gone next year so they’re trying to get other guys the reps? He’s kind of overqualified for what they do with their back rowers anyway.

I'd love to see us go in for Briton Nikora. Good player. Great hole runner. Has some aggression about him. Importantly in my opinion he's not Origin impacted.

When I told my brother he said it's a good move coz he suits bottom 8 sides ... and I think that's true, his effort can help spark something in a side that's not performing.

Love seeing him line up for the Kiwis I gotta say 😍

Article quoting Gardner saying clubs can't approach Mitch Barnett till Nov 1 without permission from him, and he's not given anyone permission. Also says the club are confident they will re-sign him.

Yes, and Munsters preference is to stay with the Storm.

All BS media quotes that mean sweet FA.

Teams aren't allowed to talk to players, officially. Yet plenty of deals still get done. We couldn't talk to Klem but we got him, I'm sure we were in his managers ear unofficially.

Not much discussion on him packing his bags for the Warriors next year ... any thoughts?

I think he is a bench player for us now, so we'll miss him in that capacity, but good luck to him.
