Knights possible targets for 2020

Milford would be an excellent compliment to Pearce because he can kind of kick too and wouldn't be asked to play at five different positions and do everything like he does at the Broncos but then again the running 5/8s we have were also supposed to compliment Pearce too but none of them can kick anywhere near as good I guess.

But he's in their plans for 2020 and none of the other Broncos options look appealing anyway so meh.
 
Unless you're the roosters the cap means you can't spend huge $$$ on a fullback, halfback AND 5/8.

When we've got Watson on 500k to apparently be a bench utility and Lino I think those expecting a 5/8 signing for 2020 will be disappointed
 
If no one moves on, we don't seem to have much money.
If Levi, Eseese, Gavet and Guerra all decide to find a new club, we have enough for at least 1 big signing or 2 mid range signings.
 
Not knowing the actual state of cap we are just guessing, those leaving will release some finances but that might get taken up with upgrades to current contracts. Even if Levi, Guerra, Ese’ese etc leave we will only receive part relief as clubs won’t pay the full amount.
At worst we have a good enough squad to make top 4-8 but a more consistent effort is required.

We we'll have to hope they either all stay or we have enough money to suitably replace them. I had a look through our list of players we expect to be here next year & our depth isn't looking good. Unless our juniors coming through are fantastic, a couple injuries down for us & we're in trouble. I trust O'Brien will bring some signings with him though.

Your last point is something which hasn't really come up much in conversation at all but is an excellent point to make.

Every coach has players who'll follow them if given the chance, although I'm mindful he's a former assistant coach so this mightn't be as strong a possibility as a Bellamy or Bennett.

Either way, don't discount who he may lure here in the next 18 months...
 
What does everyone think of Matterson as a 5/8 for us? He's skillful, big and can tackle. He's played with Pearce for a bit at the Roosters as well I think.
 
Watson never quite showed he was a natural full-time half, his lack of a kicking game put more pressure on Pearce and to a lesser extent Ponga.

Watson's real strength and probably biggest frustration is his versatility. I like him coming off the bench, he offers a hell of a lot and provides great cover should a spine player get injured. Every club needs a utility, Watson has to be considered in the top handful running around at the moment.

I reckon we need to look seriously at a 5/8 who has a strong kicking game in his arsenal. I can't think of too many top sides who rely on one player to finish off a set.

Taking players like Jack Bird or Matterson out of their strongest positions (centre, edge forward) to turn them into a spine player hurts their game more in the long run.
 
Matterson is a forward who can fill in at 5/8.

We've got a bloke called Mason Lino who can kick and pass just as well as Aidan Sezer who everyone is raving about for some reason. If our new coach can get him performing consistently and give him some help in D he'll go great.

Yep, absolutely.

If we're to believe the new mantra of the club looking towards the future, the days of trying to turn players into something they aren't have to be left behind as well.

Surprise surprise, Matterson is managed by the same company as Ramien (Pacific Sports Management). Not sure if they have the same agent, but the stories are similar. Agents getting in player's ears saying they can get more elsewhere and to break contract isn't kosher.

I agree Re Lino biggest upside for a mile for mine.

Matto would be brillant as that ball playing edge forward we are screaming for.

So, it looks like both have the esteemed Gavin Orr handling their affairs.

The very same agent who was denied accreditation in 2006 after complaints relating to allegedly forging a signature on the contract of Fuifui Moimoi.

I'll leave it at that...
 
Talk of Matterson going to Titans, possible swap for Brimson. Thought tigers would be in need of a hooker plus attraction of O’B who he has played under. Surely there’s something happening behind the scenes. Combination of Lino and Barnett was horrendous at times
