Israel Folau

His an individual who doesn't accept homosexuality. What's the big deal. It's his opinion after all. Way too much political correctness around nowadays.
He's an individual with a large profile who represents his teams/country. Of course he's going to get punished for publicly telling people they're going to hell simply for being who they are. Not to mention he'd already done it once and been warned.

Unfortunately not shocked that people on here would side with Izzy on this.

That list he posted basically says everybody in the world will go to hell unless they repent. Who hasn't lied?
So why is everyone focussing on Homosexuals?

His opinion is his opinion. He is entitled to it.

What he is not entitled to do is share that opinion online if it can be damaging to his club/sport. He signed a contract and in that contract would be clauses to cover this.

He is an idiot. The NRL has to shut the door to him.

C'mon mate, you can't be putting stuff like that out there as a public figure representing a big organization like that. It'd probably be fine if he respectfully put his opinions out there like "I don't agree with homosexuality as it is against my religion", but putting all the you will go to hell ******** in there, sponsors & organizations don't need that.

Got zero time for religious nutcases but if Russell packer and Matt lodge are playing in the nrl folau should be allowed to as well.

The majority of Pacific Islanders were raised in odd Christian sects like Mormon or seventh day Adventists.
If holding these beliefs excluded guys, we would lose a quarter of the NRL, but the problem isn't holding odd beliefs, it's publicly preaching them.

why shouldnt he be allowed to preach his beliefs. we had to listen to macklemore on grand final night preach his support of gay rights. the nrl endorsed that yet want to ban israel for doing the exact same thing. i also wonder how this would of went down if his faith was anything other than christianity.

he has been stood down based on his religious beliefs. i think rugby australia may find themselves in trouble over this.

Yep it’s a disgrace. I don’t agree with him posting it to social media it was a dumb move. But this is where we are moving towards isn’t it, being born one sex and changing to the opposite is now celebrated, instead of treated as a mental health issue.

There's a difference between preaching beliefs and hate speech, and Folau engaged in the latter. Sport should be for everyone to enjoy, and no sport should endorse a player who preaches exclusion of a significant part of society (and its potential audience).

hate speech hardly. he said homosexuals will go to hell. its something that is written in the bible (obviously not in those words). it is a religious belief. i get your angle on it but i disagree. had he of said "straight couples who engage in sex before marriage will go to hell" etc would the same stance be taken? i highly doubt it. just another example of appeasing minority groups to keep the pc brigade happy.

fwiw i dont want to come across as sharing the same views as him because i dont (i actually loathe religion) and have no issue with same sex couples. but i still believe in freedom of speech.

No matter what goes down he has opened up a can of worms. Many people just choose to shut up. Obviously Izzy isn't one of them.

It can still be hate speech, whether it's written in the bible or anywhere else. I don't want to get into my own views on the subject here as it's not really the place. However "appeasing minority groups to keep the pc brigade happy" is wide of the mark. There are young kids in society who are confused and still learning about themselves who will read his comments. He can believe whatever he wants, and there is no problem with him exercising freedom of speech. He is allowed to do so. However, that doesn't make his comments appropriate or justified. If he wants to post stuff like that, he can, but terminating his contract and banning him from a sport is completely warranted.

Most of the teachings of Jesus Christ - or the basis of Christianity - is about not judging others. Jesus repeatedly said things like Judge not least you be judged, let he who is without sin throw the first stone and told parables like the good Samaritan and the prodigal son - and the clear message was that the only one who could and should judge others is God - and it isn't the place of people to sit in judgement of each other.
Israel can say he doesn't do any of those things because he thinks God would send him to hell, but the clear message of the religion he claims to follow is that it isn't his place to tell other people they are going to hell.

like i said i get your angle on it but disagree. and i stand firm that this is about appeasing minorities. why were his comments being reported only as homophobic? he took aim at straight people who engage in sex outside marriage? wheres the outrage from the media and rugby australia? i mean by your definition as an unmarried person with kids i too am a victim of this "hate speech"
