Knights player signings, transfers and rumours

Would have have to agree with Josh. Although I think we have more than you give credit for.

Kev could play centre better than Tahu imo and Will Smith is a candidate for FG selection this year. Then we have Likiliki who is more capable in the centres than some currently running around in FG atm.

As much as I like Tahus style, I think he really really struggles to get a good pass away when it needs to be done quickly, that has cost us more than a few times on that edge...

This is his last year, maybe Bennett intends to readjust that position for 2014

Stocked? After Gagai & Tahu the only centre that's played NRL is Likiliki & he's hardly NRL standard. The rest are backrowers or guys just out of NYC.

Stocked in quantity if you look at it that way, but definitely not in quality, probably the worst centre depth in the comp tbh.

Kev can easily play Centre and so could Mata'utai and as you said LikiLiki. Id much rather give them a shot then go out and buy a Centre.

If Mata'utia and Likiliki are so wonderful, then why aren't other clubs beating down their door? Likiliki in particular barely got a NSW Cup contract renewal from us.

Kevin Naiqama is improving nicely, but is still rocks and diamonds at this stage. I can't see how he holds a torch to Tahu at centre at the moment (especially given he's primarily a fullback and winger), that's a pretty crazy call.

I must have missed the announcement that Tahu is retiring in 2013 (or he's already retired, going by Mark's post?).

Tahu does not get the credit he deserves, he was one of our best players this year, the best centre we've had since MacDougall was playing more than 5 games a year a few years ago. Can't believe there are still doubters.

Tahu over Kev for me.

Those 3 may not be world beaters but they are more then capable of playing 1st grade. Not that it wouldn't hurt to have the extra cover i just don't see any centres being bought in the next year. At best we may see one bought after Tahu Retires.

Beau Scott is a solid defensive centre if needed and we have the back rowers to cover him if he needed to shift,

We have a lot of options at centre in the near future.

Jimmy Mac could easily play centre. He is fast enough for the wing so plenty fast enough for centre, and his defence is good enough.

Will Smith is a gun young player who could play anywhere in the back line. We need to find a spot for him.

Nathan Ross is late bloomer with Qld cup and NSW cup experience with us last year who is doing pre season training with our senior squad - he plays centre and wing.

Likiliki is the best attacking player at the club after Uate. He made Junior Sau look weak in NSW cup this year, but his defence and aerobic fitness is still way down on firstgrade standard - or was before this season.

Anthony Quinn will sign this week or next.

Pete, Chanel and Pat Mataútia are all training with the senior squad and all play centre or wing. Pat is the best of them but about a year off firstgrade.

Josh Alison is an exciting young prospect at centre. A giant, fast and skilfull centre or wing who has been a bit injury prone.

Our best young prospect is Sione Mataútia, a specialist centre who is possibly the best 17 year old in the country in any position.

James Elias is a bit of a wildcard who Wayne might like. He plays centre and second row in NYC and the kid is a tackling freak. He reminds me of Bedsy in the way that he sticks like a limpert to players and is all over them like a cheap suit.

MacManus would be a terrific fullback. He is great in the air, fast, has very good ball control and is a wonderfully focussed. I understand that we have some excellent players who can cover the position but i would love to see McManus get a run there some time.

Tamou has re-signed with the Cows.

Weidler said in the SMH that Knights will be in the market for JT.

Signed until the end of 2016.

Didn't think Bennett would be willing to go after someone with JT's pricetag and tbh. My personal opinion is that if JT leaves it will be to the Panthers only.

I used to think JT would be loyal to the cowboys, but he is always the face of the players wanting a pay rise so i would definitely believe he will go to the highest bidder

I think JT will go to the highest bidder too but would love to see him in a Knights jumper .

Ofcourse he is going to be one of the players leading the charge, he is a marquee player and has more stature in the game as opposed to a minimum wage player. Slater, Cronk, Hayne, Farah etc hav so far all stayed put to their respective clubs and they have all had just as much say as JT...

What is the story Re: Anthony Quinn? Is he still trialling for a contract or has he been signed? Interesting to see him back in Knights colours from the Headshots. Also Interestingly I read on his Wiki he has played 103 games Newcastle and 103 games with Melbourne. Scoring 9 more tries for the Knights! Interesting stat!

How about instead of asking in every thread, you send Wayne Bennett an email and ask yourself? communications@huntersportsgroup.com

Nothing's been confirmed, he's been training with us.

Says we are one of the 4 clubs interested in a 12-year old sprinter. Not that this is massive news concerning the Knights NRL, NSW Cup, NYC, SG Ball or probably even HM teams, but it is a signing rumour..

Gotta feel sorry for the kid, his only 12 years old and already having contracts offered to him at such a young age which will put a lot of pressure on him. Rugby League is a tough sport, and not just about speed (although it does help) he may turn out to be alright at league, loose alot of speed from bulking up , as he looks skinny, but thats still no definite guarantee he'll make it to first grade. Then he'll regret it all, could and most likely would have gone to the Olympics and represented his country? And just thrown it all away. Or he could just be a white Uate...
