Melbourne Storm Players

Knights cop cool hand from Luke

- The Knights have turned their attention to Storm players after learning O'Donnell won't be signing with us
- They are confident they can get two or three more recruits for next season
- The Knights have been monitoring the Storm situation since the salary-cap scandal broke three months ago.
- "I'm quietly confident and we've always had a couple of plans in place and some irons in the fire in different areas" Stone said.
- Stone said Newcastle's priority was to sign a high-profile forward but "there is possibly some money in the outside-back tin, as well".

I was listening to the CCT a few weeks back and the Lawyer for News said. That contracted players who go to other clubs will be paid their current contract amounts so for Inglis 600K even if their new club does not match that amount the Storm will be forced to pay the rest out of their salary cap. So why would the Storm release anyone for less then their current contract value, which for some players no club will pay.

Agreeeee I am so sick of hearing every name in the book including Cronk who:

a) Has attracted interest from Parra and strongly came out and denied going there... how do the Knights stand a chance?

b) Is the Storms NO.1 'not going anywhere' player.

Would Inglis come to Andrew Johns' hometown and play for the Knights with pride after all that happened this year, be realistic... dreaming. He knocked back a Broncos offer, why are the Knights any better as a recruiting club?

As for if we will sign any Storm players, highly doubt that too.

I don't think he is there no.1 "not going anywhere" player in fact i'd say he would be the first to go.
1. Cam Smith is their captain, future qld captain and possibly Aus captain.
2. Greg Inglis who is reguarded "the best player in the game" in some footy circles won't go.
3. Billy Slater who once again is a proven aus and qld regular might go.
4. Cooper Cronk who yes once Darren Lockyer retires will play origin might go.

if any will go I can see either Billy Slater to union or Cooper Cronk to another club.

These players are taking pay cuts to stay at the storm yet are taking up half their cap. Realistically do you see the storm keeping these 4 players and fielding a pub team who will ge crushed every Origin and Test? Look at Johnathon Thurston who is reguarded as "the best" in the game yet the Cowboys season is all but done.

I think the storm will have to get rid of one or even two of the four.

That's not saying the knights will sign one of them... but anything is possible at this point in time!

A few weeks ago i read Ryan Hoffman vowed to not go anywhere and was completely dedicated to the club, now he's going to super league? gee.

I have no idea who Melbourne's number one priority is, but I'd say it's one of Smith, Slater, or Cronk. If anyone's going anywhere, it's Greg Inglis IMO.

Exactly, the 3 most important positions IMO are 1, 7 and 9. Melbourne can offload Inglis and still compete. If they get rid of one of the other 3 they will struggle for a combination.

Melbourne wont want to get rid of the halfback who is pretty much the most important guy in the team. Especially with the loss of Finch. Cronk came out and said talks of him leaving are 'ridiculous'.

Inglis is the odd man out.

Suprise Suprise he is signing with Brisbane - we never had a chance.

Well logically speaking, Inglis is the perfect replacement for Falou at the Broncos, money wise id say they woulda been on similar earnings, so its a pretty easy choice. (not including Inglis's extras of course lol)

Like Gallop said the other day, bulk pay cuts wont help them, as when players were off contract other teams were pulled out of the equation because of the illegal dealings, so its pretty much cutting players off to keep in the comp. Which is pretty fair, but if under these contracts Smith, Cronk and Slater were to stay, that could easily take up nearly half the salary cap, and all them players left trying to get the scraps. Wont happen, i reckon of the big 4, 2 will prob have to pack their bags

I'm not sure that signing any of the "Big Four" would be a good idea................ With all the bullsnot that has gone on this year, would they be ready to give their best for a new club?

I think that any of these players would be in a fragile state of mind if they had to leave Melbourne. A guilt trip over having to leave a club in trouble maybe?

Having said that, there is not one of the four that I would knock back! They are all superb footballers who just happen to be caught up in a disaster that is not of their making!

Inglis is going to the Bronco's according to a headline at the Daily Telegraphs webpage this arvo.
Will be announced within 18 hours.

what about Burro saying that the storm have held the game up long enough in regards to deciding upon their players futures?......no other club has any qualms about approaching storm players for possible signing, why are we the only ones still standing back like virgins in a brothel?

There was an article in the telegraph with a question 'would you be interested in the big four' and each CEO answers...and Burro basically said we have Gidley so no slater, Muillen and Rogers so no Cronk (which i dont understand how he sees Rogers over Cronk????) De Gois so no Smith and so the only person they'd go for is Inglis.

But knowing the knights that wont happen, 100% sure of that.

:brickwall:

Burro has lost the plot recently.

i think Newcastle's squad for next year looks promosing maybe a little more depth in the front row but a lot of potential. i think after todays game 2010 may just be a rebuilding year and our current roster needs to step up with our new signings on there way Costigan and henry look certain to b in the starting lineup and if we get Smith as does he. So this finall part o the season is a chance 2 see who will make the cut for nest year and who will miss out.
if brett white is still available go for it KNIGHTS!!
