Your team for 2019

Maybe they moved Watson to the centres because ‘he’s half Sione’s size and has a bad shoulder’?

Yeah that's how embarrassing Sione was rushing out of defence and leaking points that they had to move someone smaller then a small centre to his role.

You suggesting he had improved in his defence... Dude did you watch us in the first half of the year?

When we win it will be because of the good players he brought in and nothing to do with his coaching, you know how it goes.
So every time Bennett or Bellamy won a premiership it was because of the players they brought in and had nothing to do with there coaching is that how it goes or is it only Brown .

He made some poor decisions no doubt but he was nowhere near as bad as what has been made out. There was far more positives with his defence which are presented in that above article.
Think it's because closer in field there's a lot less room & more help. Out in the centres, you're on your own with opposition centres that can run around you with early ball or over you with pure strength.
Good point. As mentioned he had made some poor decisions and isn’t the quickest. His pace can let him down. But nobody is running over the top of him.

I keep forgetting that Sione is only 22 , and has his best years ahead of him. He is strong , fit and fairly quick over 30 meters maybe not backs quick but forward quick for sure . Id be happy to give him a go but imo whoever has earnt the spots in the off season at training and in the trials should get the spots whoever they are .

Quick over the 30 metres behind he wouldn't be in the top 10 in the club. He only looked quick as everyone else held his line.

I really like Sione, but in all honesty some of his defensive reads at the start of the year were absolute howlers!
When he moved one in, he improved immensely, the guy can whack but it was his reading of the play which let him down early in the year.

Coaches are on big money to get results - same as players.
Ironically, If Brown was one of Brown's players, Brown would have sacked Brown for his poor performance by now. Given him the brown-eye as they used to say in the 1970s, but I haven't heard anyone say that in 30 years, so maybe that's not something people say anymore.

Absolutely, Brown was a decent hooker but probably not up to his own standards in the current era.

Don't despair, the brown-eye insult is still alive and well :D

Dominant Mata'utia's underrated defensive numbers.

Ill just leave this here incase some haven't read it.

It's not the quality of the tackles he does make, there's no question he has enthusiasm to burn and hits hard. It's the poor reads and tackles he either doesn't complete or misses completely that are the weakness.

One or two bell-ringers per game unfortunately doesn't cancel out a try scored through a hole he should have been filling.

I've always been a fan of Sione, he's a great clubman and could have an outstanding career, but to be completely honest it's hard to know what his best position is. I think we'll see his best as a utility.

"The rebirth of the club after the Tinkler era and the NRL era, is now well and truly underway. We think we've got as good a roster as any in the league and we've certainly got the best coach in the league. So there are no excuses."
Good post to read the Owners and the players certainly love Brown and think he is a good coach .

Assuming we don’t sign Mann, what’s everyone’s thoughts about an alternative? Not necessarily a utility, but perhaps a gun hooker for example. I’d prefer Brandon Smith from Storm. If Cam Smith re-signs and pushes Brandon out, we could nab him. He’d be good cover for hooker and back row.

Only if we move on Levi

Otherwise we still need some utility depth and we're stuck with 3 hookers in the top 30 again

Some on here are considering Lino at 6 if Ponga is at 1. Think I would like to see Watson back at 6 for a while with our newly strengthened pack and have Lino put on the pressure, Lino worries me, didn't like what little I have seen of him.
