Folkes would be great for the club. He has prooven himself, and has the experience we need. Take away 2008 his record is among the best. He has WON premierships and minor premierships. Knows how to get a side going all the way through.

I personally would love to have Folkes as coach.

One of the reasons you hate Brian Smith is his handling of our halves. Look at Folkes' record: He kept Braith Anasta and got rid of Johnathan Thurston.

Mate Folkes won a premiership and should of had a second when they got points stripped. Despite his club having a poor off field culture he still got results. His record speaks for itself.

At least Folkes made a decision. Good on him. Someone like BS tells Walsh he is the best half at the club, but just over a year later he no longer wants Walsh. Make up your mind.

Same with Dureau. Do you want him or not? Not I'll give you 50 minutes every 5 or so games.

Folkes only won one premiership, unless he won one in lower grades or something.

Chris Anderson was coach of the Bulldogs in 1995.

Tbh, when you think about it, I wouldnt mind Folkes. We need someone experienced, hate to think what would happen to Stone, if he were to take over and we finish somewhere near the bottom of the ladder next year.

Oh OK, so he missed out on a premiership with a team more then 1million over the salary cap? and then won one two years later with pretty much the same squad (after taking pay cuts) and the addition of Andrew Ryan?

They lost Darren Smith, Michael Meigan, Paul Rahihi, Brett Howland, Nathan Solonginkin. With rahihi probably the only noticable top-line player, given Smith retired.

Wasn't really Folkes' fault they missed out in 2002, though. They would have won for sure if they hadn't lost all their points.

And he didn't have anything to do with the salary cap shenanigans.

I'm not arguing Folkes' credentials. They speak for themselves.

I personally think he would be a good coach for the Newcastle Knights.

Im just saying he had a pretty good playing roster, his fault or not, its more then what every other NRL team had.

But still a good coach, but Im still undecided whether i would want to coach the Knights.

Nobody has raised this yet, so I thought I would.

Last year after quitting the Dogs, Folkes signed on with the West Indies Cricket Board to be the national team's strength & conditioning coach.

If he is contracted beyond this year, that means that we will probably have to pay the WICB compensation to them which is something that we can't afford.

EDIT: His contract with the West Indies ran out in May

Maybe they should employ Folkes as an assistant just to guide him through it? Im sure its better than being a strength and conditioning coach ;)

Yeah, Folkes as an assistant could work really well. As long as he actually tries to guide Stone, instead of trying to take over. Put it this way, if we see preseason pics of the boys running up sand hills at Stockton then we know that Folkes has had his way.

If I was going to get an experienced coach as an assistant, I'd go with John Lang. At least his sides played the same type of attacking football that we do, so he'd know what he was talking about in regards to that. And he had more success over his time coaching, with lesser teams. He often had teams without stars performing to very high levels, much like our is at the moment.

Although, in saying that, I don't think we even need an experienced coach as assistant. Stone seems plenty experienced to me.

Lang is the director of coaching at Souths, we won't get him as an assistant
