We are not Premiership contenders

Bennett doesn't have a great finals record of late.

Since they won in 2000, Brisbane have barely won a single finals game. Even in 2006, they lost in the first week.

Grand finals is a different story, of course (refer to sig).

Bennett usually doesnt finish this high on the ladder though, thanks to the fact he doesnt have 'key' players in the origin teams, just a few props, Boyd and Ben Creagh. (and costigan if u count G3). Not exactly in the same league as Lockyers, Carrols, Webkes, Hunts, Hodges, Berrigans etc.

If we come 8th i cant see us beating first, especially if its a Wayne Bennett coached side. However, i think if we played em later on in the final series (granted we make it that far) we could definately cause an upset, either because they have had a few tough games, or the week off.

Yeah, that sounds a bit more reasonable.

Coming 7th or 8th I'd consider it being not the best result.

We are sorta in the same position as last year!!

Yeah, not far off it, at the moment.

Last year we had a strong finish to the season, this year we've had a strong start ... hopefully we can replicate last year's finish to boost us up the table a bit.

For you all who still believe (a little more than me I gotta admit at this point)

Then if we cant beat a 16th placed team at home, what hope do we have of the title?

First, lets just concerntrate on making the top 8. The finals is a different story. Strange things have happened. We can sort this out once we make the finals.

At this point in time, all you can worry about is making the 8.

Same hope the Eels did in 05.

We are premiership contenders until we can't mathematically make the finals or get knocked out of the finals.

At least some of us support their team to the end.

Not many at the ground tonight unfortunatly listening to all those "diehard' fans around me tear strips off Gidley( even though he played well and tried hard all night) I wanted to punch those f*ckwits, that for me was worse then the gloating Roosters supporters screaming out 'Newcastle' in a mocking sort of way.
As for not being premiership contenders whatever I'm happy just getting to watch my team each week and I'd be stoked for them just to make the finals

Suprised how many Rorters 'fans' made the trip.

As for your last sentence, spot on. I just expect more against a spoon infested side.

I agree 100%.

Although it's disappointing to see what's happened to them after the start to the year, I'm just going to take it as it comes now, and try to enjoy the roller coaster of a ride that is being a Newcastle Knights supporter. So what, we're not premiership contenders. What does that actually mean anyway? In this competition, any team can beat anyone on their day.

Even in our current terrible form, I'm still really enjoying watching them play. If they happen to limp into the finals then I'd be thrilled, premiership contenders or not. However if we don't (which is looking very likely at this stage unfortunately), I'm still going to try and enjoy watching them for the last 5 games.

I will support my team to the end but i have completely lost heart. The more i think about this season the more gutted i become. I know we have the team to rattle the top 8 but why cant we beat the crap teams... Is it really Brian Smith syndrome? Eels and Dragons have had this same problem under his coaching...

PS i love Brian Smith and what hes done for us (till now) im not bagging him just wondering if its the same trend

We had our best chance to beat the roosters in years at home & blew it for our 6th time in a row at home against them (03 14-10 loss,04 32-22 loss,05 28-14 loss,07 20-17 loss, 08 16-14 loss, & now 09 30-18 loss)...Do the roosters like coming up here or something?

WTF is a spoon infested side?

And why have you sarcastically said fans? to me fans are the ones who follow their team and travel to regional away games even if their team is coming last.

lol.

That hurt.

Another Intelligent Post.

Well writing the team off after one bad performance (Manly game) doesnt show much faith. Although it may have been justified in tonights performance, at lot can happen over the last 5 weeks. If all goes well between now and the finals, providing we make the finals, we should be a close to full strength.

But according to your philosphy, we are NO chance, so we might as well start preparing for next year.

Agreed, but it is very frustrating supporting the Knights at times

Its frustrating supporting any team. Have to take the ups with the downs though.

Dragons have been great this year, but how many premiership chances have they blown in the last decade?

Bulldogs also going great guns only 11 months after getting the spoon.

Equal minor premiers the Sharks now on the bottom of the ladder.

Just think your lucky not to be supporting the broncos atm.
